Two Oxnard men attacked under pier

Two men were attacked under the Ventura Pier on Sunday, according to police.

Juan Medrano, 21, and Nicolas Duran, 27, both of Oxnard, were attacked by several people around 2 a.m. Sunday, the Ventura Police Department reported.

The group demanded money from the pair, and one attacker punched Duran, while another stabbed Medrano several times, police said. The attackers reportedly ran to a green or blue SUV parked nearby and drove off toward San Jon Road.

Medrano was treated at Ventura County Medical Center and is in stable condition.

An investigation is ongoing, and no one has been arrested. Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call Ventura police detectives at 339-4394 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 385-TALK.

A good reason NOT to be walking under the pier at 2 AM.

Were these two men homeless? 2:00 am? Or maybe just partying under the pier? Seems strange. But anyhow I hope they are ok and hope they catch the jerks that attacked them. We just dont have all the story....I feel something is missing...

Nothing good will happen at 2:00 am Under the pier...

No matter what the too were doing, touching their shoes together or what ever is not excuse for attacking them.

sure glad it wasn't hueneme..........when it happens here, we get called low rent.

annawhaat......not everyone hanging out at 2am is homeless. ventura is a hot bed of nightlife. if bombay's closes the door at 2, these folks don't have too many options and yes......in ventura, the party never stops. i used to be in that crowd. we came home when we wanted peace and quiet

F.Y.I. There are a lot of people that work at the restaurants and the hotel on the promenade and pier. Yes, there are homeless people in the area but most of them are harmless. There is much more to this story. Do not judge the people who were attacked, they did not deserve it!

omg I'm not attacking anyone if your talking to me ! I just thought the article left out alot of detail.......No one had the right to attack these two men. I was just curious if they were out drinking, partying, or lived there !!!! I would rather go home and continue to party then hang out under a pier. But whatever !

These two people were getting off of work, not homeless...the star didn't do a very good job of reporting what happened...there was only one stab wound and the young man is is recovering just fine and has already been discharged.

(these two young men are friends of the family and I am thankful that they are doing well. )

Ventura. The new Oxnard.

Posted by mco on September 3, 2007 at 9:57 p.m. (Suggest removal)

The punks from Oxnard have to commit their crimes in Ventura. There is a gang injunction in Oxnard, therefore it would be illegal to commit their crimes there. So the next closest place is Ventura.

Maybe Ventura should install signs that say "no crimes may be permitted in Ventura by Oxnard youths.

Hey AnnaWhaat I was walking at the Oxnard beaches around 1am, only because it's so damn hot! If this crime was to happen in Oxnard you people would be bashing the city. But if it happens in Ventura it's a whole different thing. mco no crimes may be permitted in Ventura by Oxnard youths, talk about stupid people in this world, so Ventura residents are allowed to commit crime in their city, huuummm makes sense. OMG what an ediot.

A crime is a crime--wherever the location may be. Wishing a quick recovery to the victims. And hope they catch the purps.

Sounds like the Ventura Surfer Gang is active, again.
Ventura is far from the rosy beachside community that they want everyone to believe. There are gangs in Ventura, who refuse to acknowledge the beach (at any hour) belongs to everyone. They believe it is their own private little sanctuary, and get violent if an 'outsider' dares walk on the sand.
All of you who bash The 'Nard, PH, Santa Paula, etc., better clean up your own backyard, first.

We should worry about catching the people who did this crime. I hope the two men who were attacked are okay. Nobody should have to worry about getting attacked either in broad daylight or at 2am.

I have walked my dog and rode my bike by the pier and promenade day and night, 4pm or 4am and never been attacked, approached, or had any problems in the last 10 yrs. Maybe because I look like I'm from Ventura and the beach. There is a group of "gutter punks" that are homeless and do nothing but drink and hangout by the parking garage bathrooms.

It is ridiculous how many attacks have been happening in Ventura County (Ventura, Oxnard, Port Hueneme) Its hard for me to understand, I guess because I could never imagine doing that to anyone! I am always out early in the morinig, and I hate to have to think about a possibility of getting attacked! Im thinking we need more police enforcement in Ventura County! Im not saying that the police aren't doing a good job now, but I dont think there are enough of them. I dont know, but something needs to happen!

Attacks happen all over the world I don't know why you people bad mouth and attack Oxnard,,, Have you read the census do you know how many people live in Oxnard,,,of course their is going to be problems but you cannot blame Oxnard for things that happen in other city's, every city has their bad seeds. COME ON GROW UP WE DO LIVE IN A VERY BIG WORLD.

Thanks for the update (gnxr). My friends work with these guys and I'm happy to hear they'll be fine. I came to this site for an update on theses hard workers and am sad to hear them bashed in anyway.

LIVEandLEARN, remember when Surfer's Point was just a dirt lot? You know how many assaults happened that weren't reported? When the population increases, the weather is nice, and/or tourism is promoted then crime is going to increase proportionately.

If you're afraid either do something about it or "lock your doors, and close your eyes, sit back and watch tv as the crowd grows outside...."

Posted by LIVEandLEARN on September 4, 2007 at 4:17 p.m. (Suggest removal)

surfmedic91- i was not saying that only recently have the assaults happened, i know personally that they have been happening for a long period of time. that still does not change my understanding as to why it happens, or my opinion on what to do to try and help the situation. you are right, the populaton is increasing, along with the crime rate, therefore, that is why i think there needs to be more police and law enforcement, to keep up with the growing population.

The difference between oxnard and ventura..shaver and cindoh is that we are more conservative on crime. We actually catch some of these criminals. What do you mean "surfer gang is active again"? Do you have any clue as to what you're talking about? Sounds like you've seen too many movies. We spend alot of money in this town in order to keep it safe and looking presentable. Sounds like you guys should talk to your city council.

I guess My first freedom of speech/type has been removed.. WOW! I must have hit a nerve or said something close to the truth? Not sure. I guess I will have to type what they want to read not what I feel is MY truth.

jmcgaw3046,WHO said it was????

ccsully ,WHO is Judging?

gnxr,Thankyou for the update....I hope they continue to heal.

nsolorzano87,Lets get one thing straight ! I have NEVER bashed Oxnard so don't go there. Ediot? What is that a new word for you?

Posted by shaver_one on September 5, 2007 at 9:52 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Ventura isn't more conservative on crime. Ventura simply hides their crime stats by accusing other cities' citizens. I know full well what I'm talking about. There have been 'gangs' of surfers staking claim to various Ventura beaches for decades. I used to live at Pierpont Bay. I saw it all the time. But, I guess if the perps are Euro and not hispanic, or black, they don't count as a gang. Get real. Look up the crime stats, yourself. The people who stabbed these two Oxnard residents will be found to be from Ventura. So much for your conservative approach on crime.

Posted by surfmedic91 on September 5, 2007 at 10:44 a.m. (Suggest removal)

There are many caucasian based gangs in Ventura and the county but none to be considered "surfer gangs" and none that have even a majority that surf. The gangs that are the biggest rivals are the ones that actually have the most in common, i.e. rival beach areas, racial/ethnic similarities, and ways of making profits.

Ventura hides it's crime stats and limits what crimes are reported. Listen to a police scanner any night of the week and see how much is actually reported by the media.

I would be willing to bet a lot of money, that this crime was committed by either Saticoy, or the Avenue gangs. I would say the Avenue first, because if it was Saticoy, they would have hopped on the freeway right at the pier. but I dont know. either way, I doubt it was a "surfer" gang.

Posted by sog55 on September 5, 2007 at 3:12 p.m. (Suggest removal)

The last post has to be the most childish, uninformed, racist comment i've heard in this forum! Why would you doubt it was a surfer gang? Because surfer gangs tend to be white. And then at the same time you implicate two gangs from opposite ends of the city that just happen to be mostly latin neighborhoods. Am I in the twilight zone? Are you people for real? Am I dreaming? What the **** are you talking about???!!!

Posted by FedUp on September 5, 2007 at 3:47 p.m. (Suggest removal)

how is it a childish or racist comment? the reason it was said, is because there is no such thing as a "surfer" gang in ventura. there might be locals in the water at most breaks in so cal who might not be so kind to people from the valley, but they sure are not out roaming the streets at night robbing people.
you know what gangs are doing that?? the avenue, saticoy, cabrillo village.... and you know what, all three of those gangs actually have white members associated with them. it is not a race issue, until some ignorant liberal makes it one.

Posted by myopinions4536 on September 5, 2007 at 4:08 p.m. (Suggest removal)

why does everyone insist on arguing over these comments. you really think your gonna change the other persons opinion by telling them how they are wrong? what happend sucks, it happend, and no one can figure out how to prevent it from happening again! thats that, end of story, PERIOD!

Posted by LIVEandLEARN on September 5, 2007 at 4:14 p.m. (Suggest removal)

myopinions4536-

What do you call what you just did???

......

Posted by sog55 on September 6, 2007 at 5:17 p.m. (Suggest removal)

First of all they are out at night committing such crimes ...how do I know because some of these knuckleheads that do that kind of stuff are my friends. You are so out of touch with street life you're embarrassing yourself with these ignorant comments. I said it was childish because you said "they would have hopped on the freeway"? What does that have to do with anything? It just sounded like a generic simple minded statement. It was racist because you're saying that white gangs aren't out robbing people but these latin gangs are. Don't try to back pedal on your statements and turn it around. Stand behind what you said

Posted by oxnard_love on September 6, 2007 at 5:22 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Everyone just needs to stop talking obnoxtious about Oxnard there is crime everywhere you go it aint saints living in this world and the two guys at the pier might have jsut been relaxing the beachis a real calm place to be at when you just need to listen to the waves i enjoy the beach at anytime.

Wow... under the pier... 2 am... I don't know...sounds kinda fishy... lol...sorry I had to, but on a serious note, please be aware of your surroundings at all times. I don't know why they were there and really don't care to be honest. All I know is that we are all responsible for our actions whether its at 2 am or 2 pm. Please, let's do what we gotta do to make our communities safer for our children...this kind of sick reality is more vulgar to their poor innocent minds than Vanessa Hudgens and her nudey pics...
