Three arrested after restaurant robbery
An Arby's restaurant on East Main Street in Ventura was held up as employees were cleaning up.
Four people walked into the restaurant after 10 p.m. Saturday, according to police. One was armed with a gun and forced the employees to lie on the floor, while another took all the money from the safe, police reported.
Police located three of the four. Jose Botello, 18, of Ventura and two juveniles were found hiding in the bushes. Officers were able to recover the money, weapons and masks used in the robbery.
The three were arrested on suspicion of armed robbery. Police are looking for the fourth person.

The 3 top stories in the latest news section all involve hispanic males. This has become the norm in Ventura county...hispanic male victims and suspects involved in most of the robberies, shootings, stabbings, wife beatings etc etc etc. I continue to be amazed that the hispanic community and it's leaders haven't stood up for themselves to try and get control on this deteriorating situation. I realize that culturally they come from a background where you do everything you can to avoid the attention of gov't and police authorities because they generally victimize you, but come on, enough if enough.

Ventura is starting to get alot more violent crime related stories. Yesterday the guy beat badly, now two guys stabbed under the pier and Arby's. Funny, however, that in the pier story this paper's headline still includes Oxnard (where the victims were from) rather than Ventura (where the attack happened).

Desdave, I agree. I continue to be amazed that the white community and it's leaders haven't stood up for themselves to try and get control on the meth problem in Ventura, too.

To me, it is just amazing how much effort these kids put into obtaining money illegally. They had to plan the timing just right, try to disquise themselves a little. Get a hold of a gun and then pull it off. But of course, they didn't do a very good job. So, now they can spend the next 16 years in prison thinking about it. What a waste. As an employer I can appreciate the younger age they are and their loss of potential. Right now I have a kid working for me who is 19 from El Salvadore. He is a clean cut, English speaking boy. He works hard and want's to better himself lawfully. He tells me stories of all of the Homies in his neighborhood over in North Hills and Van Nuys. The Crack Capital of San Fernando Valley. I was talking to him about the nail gun I was using and he said he had a gun too. A "22" pistol. I asked him where he got it and he said his "friend" gave it to him. Oh boy, I then explained everything to him about having a gun with the possibility it could have been used in a crime or worse a murder. How he could go to prison for a lot longer than he could imagine just by owning the gun. He got rid of it in some dumbpster. It would have been better if he had turned it over to the police. And now his friend is doing 6 months in L.A. county for beating up his Dad. Good thing he had gotten rid of the gun. He is here on a work permit about to expire. Same story about not wanting to go back. At least he came here legally, and wants to do what he can legally to stay. He is a good example of positive immigration. The robbers if illegally here is the other example of immigration.
The bottom line to what I'm writing about, is that the youth today are so lost, they don't have any idea how to live their lives. MTV and Hip Hop videos are more than likely their only source of education. Their Homies are probably the only people they can talk to, because their parents are so busy working and trying to keep a place for them to live. They are unsupervised, adult bodies with childrens minds.
This is a huge problem, and obviously the education they're receiving in our school system, if that was their schooling, is not teaching them the basics of life. Do you think knowing the names of the countries of Africa is going to help? Our education system hasn't changed for probably 50 years. Try to hold an intelligent conversation with an older teenager or an early twenties, and listen to the answers to your questions other than yea, no, I guess so.
It's time to bring together the kids not in school over the age of 18, and teach them how to survive legally, or the headlines in the paper will only change with different people and different businesses being robbed.

I am wondering about the parents of these juveniles who are out commiting armed robberies. I feel bad for the young people who work at that Arby's. An experience like that can be traumatizing. I hope that the parents of these little felons are held accountable, since they are responsible for their "little ones" actions.
(Nice start on your future a**holes).

ecarson, I have an issue with your view of the educational system. It has changed, and for the worse. If it was the same as 50 years ago, it would be an improvement. Knowning world and US history, geography etc are important parts of a well rounded education, as well as math and science. There is so much attention put on meeting pointless test scores, being politically correct, and dumbing down to cater to non english speakers that we are turning high school graduates that don't know the fundamentals. That doesn't bode well of the future of this country when so many other coutries are turning out much better educated kids to face an ever more technicalogily advanced world. Plus, a lot of how you turn out as an adult is due to the influences you get at home and from the people you grow up around. Low expectations produces low achievers that can't carry on an intelligent conversation. And there are huge culteral differences that play into it. Take a look at the asian community to see how to do it right.

Desdave,
technicalogily (That is not a word) What are you trying to say......talk about kids.

Just another example of the "anchor baby" phenomenon. Take this incident and multiply it 12 million times and you see the lasting legacy our delinquent government will leave us.

Well, pconvery99, I did get a refill at Rubio's after buying a Rolex and a Lladro from VanGundy's. On a more serious note, although I am supportive of immigrants and obviously Hispanics and all other races, crime is an issue that has to be dealt with seriously. If you take racism out of it, and focus squarely on the causes and solutions, you would find that there are more criminal elements from minorities--and it is generally this way with some exceptions. I guess folks from Japan and China don't commit many crimes-especially violent ones--but our government is ready to go to war with N.Korea.. And most folks here would not, I don't think, like to live in China--where I'm sure there are no criminals out of a billion people. If you want real solutions to real problems we need to recognize that the Hispanic community needs to step it up, the schools need to stand up to the Fed and State and provide lifelong skills for those that are not college bound--but oddly enough every student is either a college grad or a complete failure--that's not a functional educational system. And it doesn't help to hope that Oxnard residents stop getting refills at the prestigious Ventura Mall.

And the mexican president wonders why we shouldnt allow more mexicans in america. Illigal immagration, the most silent takeover.

Anna, if by "people like you" you mean US born, educated, upper middle class income, able to carry on an intelligent coversation, and fed up with the erosion of our country due to uncontroled illegal immigration, then you are correct, I am one of those people. It's called being a concern citizen. And I take it as a compliment. I am so angry that our government's lack of enforcement, which continues, has allowed this to happen.

pconvery99:
How do you know all these people are from Oxnard? Do you go up and ask, "Where ya from?" Are you saying that Lily-White Ventura has no hispanics shopping at the Buena Mall? (It will forever be The Buena Mall to me.) When was the last time you visited The Avenue, or Montalvo, or East Ventura, or Central Ventura. Comments like yours are as much of the problem as Ventura's own lazy and snobish mentality. You're getting as bad as Ojai.

"You're getting as bad as Ojai."
No. We are getting as bad as Oxnard.
I dont see a problem with people who were born and raised in Ventura, trying to keep it like it used to be. A nice little beach community.
As long as the city council keeps approving developments like the Cabrillo Village, crimes like the aformentioned will continue to happen, and will escalate to even bigger crimes.
Why hasn't Mecha, or LaRaza, or any of the other "positive" hispanic groups gotten together to denounce the gang violence that is plaguing our cities?
If you can not see that the Hispanic community is a large part of the problem, then you must have blinders on. This is not being racist, this is being realistic. And for those of you who point out that white people are having issues with Meth, get a clue. Meth is the new drug of choice for gangbangers of all races.
I have plenty of friends and colleagues all from different ethnic backgrounds. the common theme we all share is; we are all sick and tired of dealing with the same old crimes over and over again. being committed by the same people, over and over again. If I see another article, where the suspects are 5'8" - 6'0", male hispanic, shaved head, baggy pants and sweat shirt, I am going to scream.
Now, I do not condone vigilante justice, but do not be surprised if we see more and more cases of it in the next couple of years. I know I am not the only one sick and tired of dealing with this problem.

shaver, the reason hispanics shop at the Pacific View Mall is because the Espanade is no longer there, the Center Point is a dump, and they don't want to drive to TO.
Ecarson, MTV and hip hop videos are their only form of education because that's how their parents educate them. My parents educated me by taking me places, making me watch Wild Kingdom, Nova, or news with them, and punishing me if I didn't show them my completed homework with grades to support it.
eduardocenter, did you know that the grandchildren and children of the VanGundy's used to get in trouble in their youth? Not all caucasian, rich kids are perfect.
FedUp is right, why don't we see any of the voices of the hispanic community denouncing gang violence in the neighborhoods of Ventura County?

desdave...I'm sure you don't make those kind of comments when latin people are around. You are a typical racist who hides out in these chat rooms making these comments because you are afraid of what would happen if you said those type of things to someone face to face. What is your response to the majority of sex offenders being white male's? What should we do with them?

surfmedic91: always in these threads someone diggs out their pure and idyllic upbringing. I'm not doubting that you had great parents--in fact I do believe they were probably even better than what you remember. I lost my father in '90 and as every year has passed I have come to realize his greatest gift were never his words, but his actions. This is not monopilized by any race. Hispanics have great family traditions. There are real reasons why Latinos have encountered problems assymilating and passing down these values. It isn't because the values are not there, although surely this is true sometimes, but rather because Hispanic parents don't realize how different life in the U.S. is from rural Mexico. You can't go to work for 15 hours a day, 6 or 7 days a week and think your kid is just hanging out with other nice kids. Providing food and shelter is not enough--and trying to buy a house and a nice car shouldn't be the measure of success for immigrants--but it often is and it comes at a very high price. Education is Numero Uno. We need a leader, for every race and from any race, to deliver this message.

The level of ignorance with which we live in our city amazes me! The racist, narrow minded comments that come out of the minds of some of our bloggers is more frightening than most of the stories they comment on. Alas, free (and stupid)speech is alive and well in our county!

vcr ,So you assume all crime in the paper are committed by hispanics?
desdave ,Oh excuse me ! I didn't know the article was about politics I thought it was about a crime at Arbys?
desdave,oh did I mention I am American born, raised and educated and a bit higher then middle class yet I see no reason to brag online about it.
FedUp ,omg I thought you were talking about my kid. But you left out his tattoos! And NO he isn't a gang banger. In fact he is White....and very dark complected and could pass as either race. He really doesn't care what you see him as. He is a human being and has friends of all races. We need to stop seeing colors and see human beings. How many cops have shaved heads?? Not to mention the tats. ALOT !!!! Again were back to stereotyping.
sog55 , Castration would be nice !
seebeyond , I so agree !!

sog55: the majority of the sex offenders in the news lately are HISPANIC males, the latest one being a teacher in Santa Barbara who brought a student to his home in Ventura...

That's obviously your perception and not fact meander. It's common knowledge the average offender is middle aged ,white males.
