Lakers take options on Bynum, Farmer

The Los Angeles Lakers have exercised a fourth-year contract option on Andrew Bynum, and picked up the third-year contract option on Jordan Farmar.

Bynum, taken by the Lakers out of high school with the 10th selection in the 2005 NBA draft, averaged 7.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.56 blocks while playing in all 82 games last season. The 7-foot, 285-pound center averaged 21.9 minutes per game.

Farmer, a guard chosen by the Lakers with the 26th pick in the 2006 draft, appeared in 72 games last season, averaging 4.4 points and 1.9 assists in 15 minutes. He also played three games for the team's D-League affiliate and made NBA history on April 1 when he became the first to play for both a D-League and NBA team on the same day.

Hardaway, five centers make final Heat roster: Penny Hardaway is officially back in the NBA, after the Miami Heat placed him on its season-opening roster Monday.

Hardaway signed a nonguaranteed contract this summer after a strong tryout. He hasn't played in a regular-season game in nearly two years because of knee problems and has been limited for several seasons by an array of injuries.

The Heat will enter the season with five centers. Shaquille O'Neal, Alonzo Mourning and Mark Blount were set, and coach Pat Riley decided to keep Earl Barron for a third season and undrafted rookie Joel Anthony.

Timberwolves buy out Howard, make trade with Spurs: The Minnesota Timberwolves did some wheeling and dealing, reaching a buyout with veteran Juwan Howard and making a trade with San Antonio to get to the 15-man roster limit before the deadline.

The Timberwolves sent a protected 2008 second-round pick to the Spurs for cash considerations and guard Beno Udrih, whom the Wolves immediately waived.

Howard cleared to practice, but remains suspended: Dallas Mavericks forward Josh Howard was cleared to practice, six days after he sprained his left wrist in a preseason game against the Chicago Bulls.

But Howard will miss the Bulls' first two games because of his suspension for an altercation with Sacramento center Brad Miller in a preseason game.

Please get a proof-reader on these articles. Jordan Farmar is spelled correctly only ONCE in this whole article. And that wasn't even in the headline. This has been my bigest complaint while a reader of your paper. It is rampant throughout your articles, not just this one. I think what is worse though is that you have the Headline incorrect.
