Vikings forced to play No. 3 QB

The Minnesota Vikings were down to their No. 3 quarterback by the end of Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Starter Tarvaris Jackson was deactivated because of a broken index finger on his throwing hand sustained last week against Dallas. Veteran Kelly Holcomb made his third start of the season in Jackson's place, but he was knocked out of the game in the third quarter on a sack by Juqua Thomas. Holcomb's head slammed hard against the turf and he injured his neck.

Backup Brooks Bollinger came out for the next series.

Coach Brad Childress said Holcomb's injury is "similar to whiplash" and he will be evaluated today.

Panthers quarterback Vinny Testaverde left Carolina's 31-7 loss to Indianapolis in the third quarter with tendinitis in his right Achilles' tendon.

The Colts lost cornerback Marlin Jackson to a neck injury in the third quarter. Jackson, the team's second leading tackler, was hurt while attempting to tackle Carolina tight end Jeff King.

Buffalo quarterback Trent Edwards left in the third quarter of the Bills' 13-3 win over the New York Jets with a sprained right wrist.

Houston quarterback Matt Schaub left the Texans' 35-10 loss to San Diego when he was hit following his second interception.

Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson, the team's leading tackler, left the game with an ankle injury in the first quarter.

Jackson's backup, Kris Griffin, was carted off with an Achilles' tendon injury. Coach Romeo Crennel was hopeful both would be back next week.

Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher all but confirmed an Internet report that he has an arthritic back after a subpar performance in a 16-7 loss to Detroit.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers special teams standout Torrie Cox left in the first half of their 24-23 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars with a knee injury and did not return.

Oakland right tackle Cornell Green left in the first quarter of the Raiders' 13-9 loss to Tennessee with a knee injury.

Steelers fullback Dan Kreider hurt his ankle on the first series of Pittsburgh's 24-13 win over Cincinnati and didn't return.
