Win puts Bryans among the best
A milestone year has moved Camarillo twins Mike and Bob Bryan among the all-time best doubles teams in history.
With their 6-1, 6-1 win over James Blake and Mark Knowles in the Davidoff Swiss Indoor tournament Sunday at Basel, Switzerland, the Bryans became the first team to win 10 times in a season since 1996.
The Bryans needed just 43 minutes to win their third Swiss title in the last six years. Their match record improved to 72-9.
The world's No. 1-ranked doubles team had never won more than eight titles in a season before this year.
They rank fifth on the all-time men's doubles titles list with 43.
Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde are the career leaders with 61. The teams of Peter Fleming-John McEnroe and Bob Hewitt-Frew McMillan are tied for second with 57. Sergio Casal and Emilio Sanchez won 44 titles.
The season is not over for the Bryans.
They are entered in the Paris Masters, which begins today, and the Shanghai Masters Cup, starting Nov. 10.
The Bryans wrap up their competitive year at the Davis Cup finals on Nov. 26.
