Man asks for a cigarette, gets robbed
A man was robbed at knifepoint in Ventura early this morning by men he asked for a cigarette, police said.
The robbery occurred about 4:55 a.m. on the 1200 block of Ventura Avenue, according to a prepared statement from Ventura police.
When the victim asked the occupants of a dark colored sedan for a smoke they responded by asking him where he was from, then jumped out and held a knife to his chest while riffling through his pockets.
The assailants took property including a cellular phone then left in the sedan.
Anyone with information about the crime is encouraged to call Ventura police detectives at 339-4394.

I think his crime was being stupid...on the avenue...at 5 am...looking for a smoke...

Like they say "cigarettes kill" I agree if you are on the Avenue at that time in the morning. That is the last thing you want to do ask a stranger for anything.

He was probably asking to buy drugs, but he couldn't tell the police that.

The older part of Ventura Avenue is the equivalent to, or worse than, Oxnard's Colonia area. Why hasn't VPD obtained a gang injunction for the gangs on The Avenue?

Eveyone on the avenue smokes cigarettes, even the c---roaches and Chihuahua's.

ventura does not have a gang problem, therefore, no injunction needed. HA! yeah right.
I agree with angrychihuahua. probably looking to score a fix, and asked the wrong people. who the heck is walking around at that hour, willing to talk to a bunch of strangers in a car??

The Ventura Police department used to be on the south end of the avenue, until crime got so bad THEY had to move!

why was someone on the ave. at 5am?!?! Thats just scary! I don't go on it after dark....but I'm afraid of everything.
