Medical marijuana growers robbed
The Oak View residents who called the Sheriff’s Department early this morning to report that a group of men pretending to be Sheriff’s deputies had stolen their pot had legal permits for the two marijuana plants that were filched, authorities said.
The residents of the home on the 100 block of Valley View Drive in Oak View were allowed to possess the pot under Proposition 215, which legalized limited medical use of marijuana, said Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Capt. Jerry Hernandez.
The amount of marijuana the residents were growing fell within the legal limit, he said.
The marijuana plants were stolen by robbers who broke into the home about 1:35 a.m.
Residents told authorities they heard men say they were sheriff’s deputies and order everyone in the home to lie to the ground, then someone broke a window and took and two marijuana plants, Hernandez said.
None of the robbers confronted any of the residents, though some residents observed the robbery, he said.

It makes sense to me now why everyone in Oak View/Ojai area are so mellow and Laid-back.

They were probably medical growers with gardens operated legally under California Proposition 215 and Senate Bill 420.
Or they were completely high.

Judgement aside on the reporting stolen pot, I do think that the authorities should know that there was band of men invading a home impersonating sheriff deputies.

They were growing it for Medical marijuana use...legal in the state (with license). Unfortunately, it is illegal according to Federal laws.

Sadly this is not the 1st time I've heard of something like this. I don't know if these growers were legal or not. I do know that there have been other instances where someone has called the police to report their dope having been stolen. What idiots.
And I agree that it's important for the cops to know if there are criminals impersonating them.

boy, i needed a good laugh right now, and this filled the spot. obviously the thieves knew about the plants to begin with, and are probably 'friends' of the growers. however i do have to agree that impersonating peace officers is not cool... that's more wrong than growing/stealing a little pot...

Ok, this story sounds very strange. It's obvious word got around these people were growing marijuana. What are the odds that "robbers" picked a house to rob and it just so happened to have marijuana growing in it?

Can any of you people read they were allowed to possess the pot under Proposition 215, which legalized limited medical use of marijuana, said Sheriff’s Department Spokesman.

cindoh23...the article has been amended. nice example of why people shouldn't jump to conclusions or belive everything they read. next we may find the permits were forged.

cindoh you would have needed to read the original (unamended)article for most of the comments to be in context. It does say ammended at the very top, however a moderators note would have helped. What are these people gonna do now for their "medicine" ?

they're probably watering their pot with it right now, rcamacho.

The original story made no mention of it being medicinal.....

I still think the story sounds like a Monty Python skit.

This is too funny..........I didnt have to read the story the title had me rolling.....

Sadly most of you can't read. They grew it legally. Therefore they could not be arrested. If so the judge would just drop the case.

Sadly, VENTURACOUNTYGUY, when this story originally printed, it mentioned nothing about them legally growing it, they added it later when more details came about. So when we all commented on this, it said nothing about medical marajuana or anything about that they legally grew it.

How did the thiefs know there was pot in the home? Sounds like they need to check the "friends" of the victims.
