Man killed in crash at intersection

A 47-year-old Fillmore man was killed over the weekend in a car accident at Sespe Street and Pasadena Avenue in Fillmore.

Guillermo Nava-Casarrubias was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday morning after his vehicle was broadsided by Robert Aguilar's Dodge Magnum, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Aguilar, 24, failed to stop at a posted stop sign as he headed west on Pasadena Avenue, according to the CHP.

Nava-Casarrubias was driving south on Sespe and was not required to stop at the intersection.

This kind of action, blowing through red lights and stop signs, appears to be on the rise. Every time I come to an intersection anymore whether I am stopped or moving, I scan both ways before crossing. It is really getting serious out there with the number of ignorant drivers out there.

Running a stop sign is not ignorance. Young children know what it means. Running the stop sign is stupid, or lazy, or drunk, or something else. Not ignorance.

my condolescense to Mr. Nava-Casarrubias' family.
How sad, and at the same time, it infuriates me that Mr. Aguilar didn't heed the stop sign. why??

I now use my car horn at stop lights & stop signs when people run it,-- and some of them actually flip me off, like I've done something wrong...

wdwinder1, you couldn't have said it better. Maybe I worded it wrong, but you are absolutely right!

My condolences to Mr. Nava-Casarrubias's family also. However, maybe you shouldn't believe everything you read, or perhaps you don't have the full story. Maybe you should look at the police report and not make people feel bad about having an accident. Afterall, isn't it called an accident for a reason? Why do you people judge so harshly? Do you know what the conditions were like? Justmeinsp, don't get so infurriated if you don't even know what happened. And don't blame it on "young children" wdwinder1. I know some old people who have caused accidents before too.

Jeterfan24, read my post again, this time carefully. I NEVER blamed it on young children. Did you read the posts? I said even young children understand the meaning of the STOP sign, and that not knowing what the STOP sign meant was not ignorance. AND , no I don't think many 'accidents' that occur these days are accidents. I think most are avoidable if the drivers would pay due attention to what they are doing. The wreck caused by the tailgater (or the cellphoner, or stereo tuner or the drunk) slamming on the brakes (or whatever) is not an accident. Those are all avoidable. Even most mechanical failures are avoidable and therefore not accidents.

And what exactly do yo mean by not believing everything you read. You mean maybe he isn't really dead. You mean maybe, the guy with the right of way didn't really have the right of way and should have stopped for the guy running the stop sign. What exaclty are you talking about?!!

My condolences to that family and friends. This happened it Bardsdale. Alot of people just assume that no oncoming traffic is coming, since its an area on the outskirts of town. Unfortunately is cost a young man is life due to negligence.

I saw 2 people go straight through stop sign on my way down "A" street last week. I don't know if this is what happened here but what I see going down "A" street is a one of two extremes. Either I will be following someone who stops forever at a stop sign or someone who goes right through.

I would just like to say that I have heard that this particular intersection has had many accidents in the past due to a difficult to see stop sign. I would also like to say that it is very sad that someone passed away as a result of that. However, I think it is extremely cruel and "ignorant" to say that this man is "ignorant" or "lazy." You don't know anything about what happened or who this man is so judging him is not fair. You don't think he is going through enough. Imagine how terrible you would feel if you accidentally killed someone. I can't even imagine that. I would also like to send my prayers to the family of the man that passed away.

coury84 ,Very well put.........with all the orange trees out there sometimes you just cant see the stop sign.......... I feel for what this man is going through. And I feel terrible for the family that lost thier loved one. My prayers and condolences are still with you........

I'm sorry, but nowhere in this report did I read that Mr. Aguilar was "blowing through stop signs" "lazy" or "drunk"! Perhaps he didn't "heed" the stop sign because he DIDN'T SEE IT!! This is why they are called accidents. No one wakes up in the morning and thinks "Today I am going to run a stop sign and kill someone" now that's "ignorant"! I blame the city for it's "neglegence" it's their job to clear the tree's to keep the stop signs visible. I have heard of many accidents on that road so perhaps now from this tragedy they will make the stop signs more visible and get some overhead street lights put in. My heart goes out to BOTH family's for the guilt and saddness they will feel for the REST OF THEIR LIVES! Before you judge, remember, we are all human it could of happened to any of us and some of these opinions do not make anyone or anything any better!

Merc72 do you even live in Fillmore? The trees they are referring to are Orange trees, owners of the properties trees. The city can not just come in and remove or cut the trees. They are agriculture. People drive too fast in Bardsdale and I believe there should be more police officers out there ticketing people. The speed limit all through there is 45 MPH and in some areas less, I have seen cars flying through there like its a freeway. Im sure this person did not go out of his way to kill someone, but I can not understand how he ran the stop sign when the stop sign T's with A street ( A street is also 45 mph, people drive 60 through there and are constantly riding your a** or passing you, speaking from experience). You can only go left or right. He definetly was not paying attention. Its sad that this man has passed and I pray for his family.

That's funny cuz I don't remember asking you for your opinion on what I wrote. My point simply is...accidents happen and people should not be so QUICK TO JUDGE another person for something they know so little about. They were not there and do not know the whole situation wheather you drive, live or frequent that spot OR NOT! I have lost someone this same way (SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE) and believe me when I say the other person that caused this accident will NEVER be the same. Have compassion for others and leave the judgements to God!

there are no accidents, only collisions. Someone(a driver) or something (the city) is at fault...just wait for the investigation to be completed and all of you with your pompus comments can continue from there. cheers

Good point erickscheap but I know what happend so I don't have to wait for the report to come out! I just hope they do something about that street so that the accidents (Oh my bad! "collisions") can stop! cheers!
