The Carpinteria High football team kept its playoff hopes alive after a 35-0 victory over host Santa Paula in a Tri-Valley League game on Friday night.

Sophomore quarterback R.J. Rosborough threw for 145 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Warriors, who improved to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Santa Paula (4-4, 0-3) has now lost 19 straight league games. Its last league victory came in Week 4 of the 2004 season.

Following a Santa Paula punt, Carpinteria took a 6-0 lead when Rosborough threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Eric Stein with 4:52 remaining in the first quarter. The eight-play, 63-yard drive was kept alive on a fake punt run from Freddy Maldonado good for 38 yards on fourth-and-two. The touchdown pass came on fourth down.

After another Santa Paula punt, Carpinteria went up 14-0 when Rosborough connected on a 1-yard scoring strike to Maldonado with 8:04 left in the second quarter. A 22-yard run from Rosborough and 33-yard run from Isaac Gutierrez highlighted the seven-play, 80-yard drive.

Another three-and-out forced Santa Paula to punt again on its next possession. Gutierrez fielded the punt at the Cardinals 40, broke one tackle, cut to the right and raced down the sideline 60 yards for the score and a 21-0 lead.

Santa Paula's best chance to score came late in the second quarter. Taking over at its own 26-yard line, the Cardinals drove 66 yards to the Warriors 8. On fourth-and-two, Quinn Pawlick's run came up a yard short. Pawlick rushed for 101 yards on 22 carries.

After an onside-kick attempt failed for Santa Paula to begin the third quarter, Carpinteria went up 28-0 when Rosborough threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Karson Kump with 11 minutes remaining in the third.

Rosborough completed 15 of 22 passes and had completions to six different receivers.

Stein led all receivers with five catches for 81 yards and Kump had four receptions for 26 yards.

Carpinteria capped the scoring when Ivan Millholin scored on a 43-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.

Martin Ramirez gained 55 yards on 13 carries, Michael Vera caught three passes for 14 yards and Joseph Camacho had an interception for Santa Paula.
