After early season injuries knocked several running backs out of action, Ventura High's Brandon Dore was asked by coaches to take a shot at carrying the load.

In the last three games Dore has become a major offensive threat for Ventura (2-6, 2-1), including Friday night's 40-14 romp over crosstown rival Buena (4-4, 1-2) at Larrabee Stadium.

Dore had 22 carries for 197 yards and three touchdowns. His final touchdown capped a key fourth-quarter drive that saw Dore carry the ball nine times for 54 yards.

Making his performance even sweeter was the fact that Dore started his career at Buena, transferring after his freshman year.

"I have been waiting three years for this," Dore said. "It was a big game for us and gives us a lot of momentum.

"My offensive line did a great job of blocking. Our whole team played great."

Buena running back Michael Davis played brilliantly in the loss, rushing for 215 yards and scoring both Buena touchdowns.

Oxnard 49, Channel Islands 13: Oxnard (6-2, 3-0 Pacific View League) used a 21-point third quarter to pull away from host Channel Islands (0-8, 0-3).

Dasmen Stewart had touchdown runs of 37 and 13 yards to give the Yellowjackets a 28-7 cushion at halftime and spoil the homecoming festivities for Channel Islands.

Marco Estrada scored on an 82-yard kickoff return in the second quarter and added a 68-yard run in the fourth quarter. It was the Raiders' 12th straight loss dating back to the 2006 season.

Oxnard will host Camarillo on Friday night in a Pacific View League showdown with first place on the line.

Camarillo 38, Pacifica 13: Marcus Sanchez passed for 246 yards and 2 TDs and scored on 23-yard run for Camarillo (6-2, 3-0) on the road in a matchup of co-Pacific View League leaders.

Gary Glenn, returning to the lineup after missing one game with an injury, rushed for 136 yards and scored on runs of 17 and 33 yards.

The Camarillo defense held Pacifica to minus-1 yard on nine of its 13 series.

Vince Moraga passed for 183 yards and one TD for Pacifica (4-4, 2-1).

Carpinteria 35, Santa Paula 0: Carpinteria kept its playoff hopes alive after a victory at Santa Paula (4-4, 0-3 Tri-Valley League).

Sophomore quarterback R.J. Rosborough threw for 145 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Warriors.

Rosborough connected with Eric Stein from 11 yards out in the first quarter and Freddy Maldonado from 1 yard out in the second.

Rosborough, who completed 15 of 22 passes for 145 yards, capped his night with a 5-yard scoring strike to Karson Kump in the third.

Isaac Gutierrez added a 60-yard punt return for a score for Carpinteria (3-5, 1-2).

St. Bonaventure 41, Dos Pueblos 17: Junior Patrick Hill scored a 6-yard touchdown and a 70-yard catch-and-run touchdown pass as St. Bonaventure lived up to its No. 1 ranking in Ventura County with a Channel League win over Dos Pueblos at Buena High.

Quarterback Casey Serna led St. Bonaventure with 95 yards rushing and also passed for 168 yards and two scores — the 70-yarder to Hill and 22-yard pass to Blayne Lewis to cap a nearly flawless two-minute drill at the end of the first half.

Darrell Scott rushed 11 times for 87 yards and a touchdown and Raphael Washington and Nolan Rodarte added short TD runs as St. Bonaventure improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in league. Dos Pueblos fell to 4-4, 1-2.

Malibu 28, Fillmore 21: Fillmore dropped its first Frontier League game despite a team-leading 125 yards rushing by Sal Ibarra.

Nathan Ibarra ran for two touchdowns for Fillmore (4-4, 1-1), including one in the fourth quarter in a comeback attempt that fell short. Sean Conrad had three rushing touchdowns and ran for 196 yards for Malibu (4-4, 1-2).
