Yankees looking to meet with A-Rod
The New York Yankees are trying to set up a meeting with Alex Rodriguez while they work on picking a manager.
Rodriguez has until the 10th day following the World Series to decide whether to opt out of his record $252 million, 10-year contract and become a free agent. The Yankees plan to offer him an extension and say they would drop out of talks if A-Rod opts out.
Hank Steinbrenner, a son of owner George Steinbrenner, said Friday the club probably will meet soon with Rodriguez and agent Scott Boras.
Rodriguez had a major league-best 54 homers and 156 RBIs this season, numbers that likely will earn him a third AL MVP award.
Padres waive Marcus Giles: The Giles brothers reunion with their hometown San Diego Padres lasted only one season.
Second baseman Marcus Giles, the younger brother of right fielder Brian Giles, was put on waivers. The Padres owe Marcus a $500,000 buyout of his $4 million option.
FBI investigating attack' on crash of Rockies' ticket system: The FBI opened an investigation after the Colorado Rockies claimed an "external, malicious attack" on computers halted the team's first attempt to sell World Series tickets.
Computer servers handling the online-only sale were overwhelmed by 8.5 million hits in the first 90 minutes Monday, crashing the system and forcing the Rockies to suspend sales. On Tuesday, fans snapped up more than 50,000 tickets in 2 hours.
Game 2 ratings down from last year: World Series television ratings for Game 2 dropped despite a new television schedule this year.
Boston's 2-1 victory over Colorado on Thursday night got an 11.1 rating and 18 share, Fox said. That's down 4 percent from the 11.6/18 for Detroit's 3-1 win over St. Louis in Game 2 last year, which was played on a Sunday night and followed an NFL broadcast.
