VICTORY! MM BLACK WIN IN OT!
Cougars Black 26 Cougars Gold 20A real nail-biter!Who thought it could be such an engaging event: two Camarillo Mighty Mite teams pitted against each other. But these two teams put on their game faces and brought out the best each other had to offer.Jaden Jones demonstrated remarkable offensive and defensive blocking at the RunningBack and Cornerback positions. With outstanding offensive blocks by Kyle Blauert and Miguel Gomez, Jones was able to score touchdown number one for the Cougar Black who were already behind by a touchdown. Logan White dazzled the crowd with two sacks (it appears this may become trademark for Logan) and unassisted tackles at the Defensive Tackle position. Jonathan Mora, Kyle Blauert, and Miguel Gomez put on blitz pressure and team tackles at the Defensive Line positions.Ethan Barruetas' fumble recovery and consistent hard-hitting team tackles at the Defensive Tackle position did not go unnoticed. "Our defense was on fire today. No matter how far we were down, we never lost our Mighty Mite Black spirit and determination," recalled a very proud Coach Pete.David Tomasetti and Carson Smith each laid out bone-jarring solo open field tackles at the Defensive End positions, while Jacob Carbajal and Blake Kytlica put on team stops of the Gold's Running Back. Carbajal and Kytlica performed optimally as Defensive Guards. In the second half, after being down by two TD's, it was Michael Watkins who ran the ball thirty-plus yards and raised the Cougar Black's score with a touchdown of epic proportion! Enter Cameron Welty. This outstanding rookie floored the sidelines with a Quarterback sack to help stop the MM Gold team during a drive. The very next possession, Quarterback Blake Hansen drove the ball across the end-zone for the touchdown that tied the game. Thanks, Cameron! Cameron also had another key tackle for a loss of yardage keeping the MM Gold from advancing the ball - ultimately sending the game into overtime.Adam Ruiz impressed the team with a sack and team tackles at the Defensive Noseguard position. Blake Hansen's throwing accuracy and ability to spin into a two-point conversion continued to pump the entire team and the fans in the bleachers. The Black's cheer squad could hardly compete with the crowd. And who didn't jump up from their seats when Noah Swindle recovered that fumble? The crowd showed their appreciation for sure. Noah's awesome day on defense with several solo tackles helped move the Mighty Black Attack towards victory."Everybody played such a good game. For me it was nerve wracking," exclaimed Mrs. Magana, mother of one of the Black's Mightiest. The play that was most talked about in the Magana home was when Armando, Jr. tackled the running back and lead the opponent to fumble the ball. Of course, that gave the Black possession of said ball which, with outstanding blocking by Jace Morin and Troy Brown, enabled Jake Moss to score thetiebreaking and winning touchdown in overtime for the Camarillo Cougars Mighty Mite Black! All in all it was a riveting game but not without its bittersweet moments. All of these players worked out together in the pre-season and this game saw buddy tackle buddy. But in the end, the buddies shook hands and left "it" on the field. Great Game Cougars, whatever your color!
