Police say shooting may be gang-related
An Oxnard man was shot and wounded this week in what police say might have been a gang-related incident.
Oxnard police officers responded Tuesday night to a report of gunshots in the 2400 block of Alexander Street, Police Department spokesman David Keith said.
A short time later, a 22-year-old man showed up at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard with two gunshot wounds. Police did not release details about the severity of his injuries.
The victim was unable to provide any details about the shooting because of his condition, Keith said.
Investigators on Thursday had not determined what motivated the shooting, but they are looking into the possibility that it was gang-related, Keith said.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Detective Chris Williams of the Oxnard police at 486-6228, or make an anonymous call to the Gang Hotline, 982-7043.
Earlier this week, Oxnard police reported another person was shot Tuesday night. That shooting occurred on J Street, and the victim, a teenager, was wounded in the leg.
People in a car yelled gang slogans before shooting him, the teen told police.

I wonder why the police delayed releasing information about this shooting, but not the other. Maybe Oxnard's "image managment" permits releasing information of only one shooting per day. Anything more than that might create an adverse perception that Oxnard might have, however remote, a gang problem.

I was thinking that also. This happened Tuesday evening and were just now hearing about it?

A press release was sent out to the media within hours of this incident Tuesday night. I do not know why the Star held the story until today.

I suspect that the fires were the primary focus of the media this week and everything else slid a bit.

David Keith...It won't matter what you say..,
You could go over on Saturday and mow their lawn
go back on Sunday and wash and wax their cars...you won't convince these people....they will blame the cops, not the gang members, not the news of the day.....The Cops did it!!!
Keep up the good work...

Officer Keith, I have seen shows on t.v. where they invite these criminals to a big party -- then they arrest all of them. My idea is blow them up!!! Otherwise, these criminals produce little criminals & it just multiplies.

officer keith, some people just keep thowing stones and they have to blame someone for their fears, today it's the vc star, because they didn't hear fast enough about a shooting, do we really need to hear about ANOTHER one? Does it really affect our lives? No it's just something else to b**ch about. Let the police do their jobs, beside if they thought Oxnard was so unsafe why are we so over populated? By the way, keep up the good work!!

mjc7480.. me personally i have no fears of another killing.. i just think it's ashame that all these people are dying because of the violence.. it may be true that the fires that have been going on may seem a little bit more important than a killing.. but majority of the people who get the paper read it to see whats going on around their neighborhood.. and your right when there's always someone out there blaming someone else for something not getting out quick enough.. but not everyone can be saticfyied either...

Thanks kaozox, way to give criminals information they may have not thought of getting. Yes it may be out there, but there is no need to post it on a public forum like this.

honestopinion, Goodfella:
Security by obscurity is not secure.
Because we all know, the gang members spend their days on VCS forums, and at night they listen intently on their police scanners.
kaozox, thanks for the post. :)

Bugmeyes-It is real dumb to post the 10 code. And gang members do go on the VCS...read some comments.

Why Blame Mr.Keith? He doesn't write all the police reports? The star is free to go and read all the police reports...etc. But they are NOT all written by him. He has nicely came on here to clarify things we didn't know. No need to bash him.....
