CLU show features oil and watercolor paintings

A solo exhibition of oil and watercolor paintings will be on display from Nov. 17 through Dec. 19 at California Lutheran University.

"Quiet Beauty" will feature more than 20 still life, landscape and figurative paintings by Michael Lynn Adams. An opening reception will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in The Gallery at Overton Hall

Adams graduated from CLU with a bachelor's degree in art in 1972. He is currently the university's Creative Media Center director and webmaster and has won dozens of awards as a designer and illustrator.

A former student at the California Art Institute, Adams was accepted as an associate in the Oil Painters of America (OPA) in 2006. His works hang in several private collections and have been featured in many juried shows, including the OPA National Competition. One of Adams' oil paintings, "Rugged Vase," was selected for the SmallWorks North America exhibit to be held Nov. 24 through Dec. 31 in Connecticut, the first juried exhibition of miniatures on the East Coast. Galerie Esteban in Santa Fe, N.M, represents Adams.

Adams grew up surrounded by the arts. His greatest influence was his grandfather, an architect and painter. Adams spent many summers with his grandfather in the Adirondack Mountains, discovering the work of American painter Winslow Homer and honing his skills as an artist.

CLU's Art Department and the Kwan Fong Gallery of Art and Culture are sponsoring the free exhibit.

The Gallery at Overton Hall is open from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The university is located at 60 W. Olsen Road in Thousand Oaks.
