Elizabeth Miller's "Landscapes and Funscapes on Yupo Paper" solo exhibit at the Buenaventura Gallery
"Landscapes and Funscapes on Yupo Paper" a solo exhibit by Elizabeth Miller will be at the Buenaventura Gallery will run from November 13 through December 8 with an artist reception on Saturday, November 17 from 4 - 7 pm.Miller is known primarily as a Plein-air watercolor painter. However, for this exhibit, she is painting on Yupo paper. Yupo paper is a synthetic 100% polypropylene paper. Painting on Yupo paper is a challenge for the watercolor artists: its non-absorbent surface resists the traditional buckling that watercolor artists face but it also resists the medium itself. Miller has chosen to paint with Yupo because the pigments retain their intended brilliance while allowing the artist to apply many transparent layers. In addition to painting scenery and flora, she has explored "a humorous thought, something semi-abstract, non-traditional, and hopefully free of any contemporary style" for this exhibit. Miller says, "My paintings are all about color, light and shapes. I love the beauty of Southern California and enjoy depicting historic landmarks, open spaces and floral scenes in the colors only the special quality of Southern California light can inspire."Elizabeth Miller has painted for nearly 50 years. She studied at the famed Art Students League in New York City as well as Joseph Hintersteiner in New York and Sally Miller in Southern California. Elizabeth has been invited to exhibit in numerous shows in Southern California, including the High Studio Gallery in Moorpark, the Ventura County Maritime Museum, the Buenaventura Art Association, the Ventura County Art Association and the Conejo Valley Art Association. Her work has been displayed at the Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks, The Stage Coach Inn in Newbury Park, and more. She has successfully participated in the juried Thousand Oaks Art Walk, the juried Santa Barbara Fine and has been a regular exhibitor at the Ventura Art Walk for at least six years. The Buenaventura Gallery is located at 700 E. Santa Clara St. in downtown Ventura. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12 to 5 pm and Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm.
