Graffiti software helps ID suspect

19 counts of vandalism faced

Ventura police used graffiti tracking software Tuesday to help apprehend a suspected tagger, who faces 19 counts of vandalism, authorities say.

Officers arrested Jeremy Lee Delgado, 21, of Ventura, after he was found with graffiti paraphernalia during a traffic stop in Ventura, according to a statement from the Ventura Police Department. Delgado also had an outstanding warrant for possession of graffiti tools from San Bernardino County.

With the help of Graffiti Tracker, a Global Positioning System database program, Ventura Police Department graffiti investigator Cpl. Al Gomez was able to trace numerous incidents of vandalism to Delgado, according to police.

Photos of graffiti are entered into the Graffiti Tracker program, which helps identify vandalism suspects and trends.

Police say Delgado admitted to all of the vandalism incidents, spanning more than a year.

He faces one count of felony vandalism, 18 counts of misdemeanor vandalism and two counts of possession of tools to commit vandalism. He was held Wednesday at the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Police say the best way to deter vandals is to remove graffiti as soon as possible, and if you see vandalism in progress, call 911. Don't try to intervene.

To report graffiti in Ventura, call the city's 24-hour graffiti hotline at 654-7805.

Since this fine, upstanding member of the community has already admitted committing these incidents, he should have to provide restitution to all those whose property he damaged BEFORE he is allowed to post bail.

Well I am glad they have this high technology device to track all the grafitti and be able to track it to the person. Let him post bail..... And if he doesn't have the money let him work it off. There are lots of homeless shelters and missions that could use his labor and he can work off everything he owes the city.

If he has already pleaded guilty to these 19 acts of vandalism, why was he even considered for bail. He has admitted that he did it. Case closed. He said "I did It." Sentence him for his crimes.
18 misdemeanors and 1 felony...doesn't that fall into the "Mandatory Sentence" clause of our judicial system?
By pleading guilty, he has waived his 'day in court'.
Watch him plead "not guilty" when he faces the judge.
Unbelievable.

shaver_one ,its crazy but the Judge goes by a book for crimes committed and sets bail accordingly. Although he doesn't deserve it the stupid books says he is entitled to it????

unfortunately, he has not entered a guilty plea to the charges in court, but merely admitted to the police that he committed the crimes. he still needs to be formally charged (in court), at which time he will, no doubt, deny the charges and have his criminal attorney (sorry for the redundancy) throw up a smoke screen. until then, he is still allowed to bail out of jail.
