Agromin Joins California Climate Action Registry
Agromin, a premium soil producer and green waste recycler for 19 southern California cities, is now a member of the California Climate Action Registry. The registry, established by a California statute in 2001, helps California businesses, government agencies and municipalities establish greenhouse gas emission baselines against which future greenhouse gas emission reduction requirements may be applied. By joining the registry, Agromin agrees to voluntarily track and report its greenhouse gas emissions.
"We want to be proactive when it comes to monitoring and reducing greenhouse gas emissions," says Bill Camarillo, CFO of Agromin. "By joining the registry, we will assess and report any emissions Agromin may produce and help in the creation of testing and tracking criteria that will eventually be used by all state businesses and government entities."
Last year, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill 32, the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, a first of its kind comprehensive program of regulatory and market mechanisms to achieve quantifiable, cost-effective reductions of greenhouse gases in California. The law requires all California producers of greenhouse gasses to reduce emissions by 20 percent by 2020 based on 2000 levels. Mandatory caps will begin in 2012. Businesses and agencies must adopt mandatory reporting rules for their greenhouse gas emissions by January 1, 2009.
"When other businesses scramble to figure out how to assess their emissions next year, we'll already be ready," says Camarillo. "Our goal is to develop the most cost-effective means of managing and reducing our emissions. Agromin will save money while creating a cleaner environment. By becoming a California Climate Action Registry member, Agromin is at the forefront of establishing emission testing protocols that we expect will be adopted nationally."
There are currently 302 registry members, primarily cities, counties, government agencies, universities, power companies and municipal utilities.
