LOCAL EMPLOYERS TO LEARN THE ESSENTIALS OF

EMPLOYMENT LAW AT VENTURA BUSINESS CONFERENCE

VENTURA, Calif.-Employers can the learn the do's and don'ts and most recent updates in employment law during three informative breakout sessions at this year's annual Ventura Business Marketplace & Conference, an all-day regional business event. Speakers at the separate morning and afternoon presentations will be attorneys Jonathan Fraser Light, Karen L. Gabler and Curtis A. Graham, partners at Ventura County's largest law firm, Nordman Cormany Hair and Compton LLP. Session topics include "Wage and Hour Heartburn," "Mandated Leaves of Absence and Related Benefits for California Employers" and "Discipline and Termination." The event, 7:15 a.m.-7 p.m., Oct. 26, at the Marriott Ventura Beach Hotel, 2055 East Harbor Blvd., Ventura, will wind up with an exhibitor's reception sponsored by the law firm.

"The combined information in our three sessions will give employers a practical guide, with specific examples, of how to deal with many employee situations, as well as the legal issues and documentation needed to avoid problems." Light said.

Light's wage and hour seminar will cover the pitfalls to avoid, including meal and rest breaks, pay stubs, overtime calculation, employee classification problems and more. Gabler will discuss mandatory state and federal leaves of absence, how they apply to a particular workplace and related issues including insurance, vacation and sick leave during employee leave. Discipline, documentation, probation, termination and severance and release agreements will be handled by Graham.
