Oak Park High raced to a win in its Tri-Valley League debut Friday night and completed its final tuneup before facing rival Oaks Christian in a league showdown next week.

The host Eagles beat an outmanned Grace Brethren squad 38-6, with all the scoring neatly squared away by halftime.

Oak Park (4-2, 1-0) will visit Oaks Christian next Friday in a quest to finally unseat the Lions as TVL champs.

Quarterback Kyle Andrus passed for two touchdowns and ran for another and the Oak Park defense returned two fumbles for touchdowns. Oak Park's offense had only 16 plays in the first half, but easily overwhelmed Grace Brethren (3-3, 0-1).

Oak Park was happy to finally be able to give Oaks Christian its undivided attention.

"It's like we said," said coach Dick Billingsley, "one game at a time and now we can think about Oaks Christian. They've played some pretty good football teams, just like we are. I'm not really surprised (Oaks Christian has had its ups and downs this season), but they lost 11 kids off their team that went to Division I schools on scholarships. They've also got a lot of very, very good kids returning, so they're a very, very good football team."

Grace Brethren had problems right away, suffering through the first quarter without starting quarterback Kevin Ramay, who was held out for disciplinary reasons. The Lancers took the opening kickoff and on the second play from scrimmage, backup quarterback Max Leffler lost the football. Oak Park's Sean Westgate scooped it up and went 4 yards into the end zone for a touchdown with only 1 minute, 3 seconds elapsed.

On its first play on offense, Oak Park scored when Andrus ran 31 yards for a score. Brett Zeoila added a 25-yard field goal soon after and the Eagles led 17-0 after the first quarter.

The second scoring fumble recovery was by Josh Marcus, who took the ball 15 yards for a touchdown. Oak Park also had scores in the second quarter from Kyle Shorten, who caught a 62-yard pass from Andrus, and from Max Dipaolo, who brought the ball in on a 32-yard throw from Andrus.

Grace Brethren's TD came on an 18-yard pass from Ramay to Max Penich.

"We never got on track," said Grace Brethren coach Mark Hoeffler. "Oak Park's got a heck of a football team and you can't let them score on you on will."
