Wind starting to die down, fire danger remains
The wind that buffeted Ventura County over the weekend was tapering off Monday, though the danger of fires remained high as dry gusts of up to 30 miles per hour blew through valleys.
Sea breezes are expected to replace dry offshore winds by about 8 p.m., said Ryan Kittell, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service's Oxnard office.
The moist sea breezes expected this week should take the edge off the tinderbox conditions that led the weather service to continue a red flag warning through 8 p.m. Monday, Kittell said.
The cooler winds are expected to cause temperatures to drop about 10 degrees from Monday's highs, which were predicted to hover around 90 in valleys and about 80 on the coast.w
