Pate playing well at PGA Tour qualifying event
Steve Pate is one step away from another year of competing on the PGA Tour.
Pate advanced to the final stage of the 2007 PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament, set for Nov. 28 through Dec. 3 at the Orange County National in Winter Garden, Fla.
The Westlake Village resident earned his spot in the finals by posting a score of 8 under in the second stage event held at the Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont.
Soule Park looking to repeat: The team from Soule Park increased its lead to nine points over second-place River Ridge following the second round of the Senior Cup Golf Tournament.
After two rounds, Soule Park has 39 points, while River Ridge has 30. Sterling Hills is third with 26.25 points, followed by Buenaventura at 23.75 and Camarillo Springs at 11.
The points double for the third and final round that will be played Nov. 29 at Buenaventura.
Each round features a different format. The first round features a two-man scramble format. The second round is a two-man, best-ball and the final round is individual play.
Soule Park is the defending champion.
Ventura City results: Former Hart High standout Joe Greiner won the 35th annual Ventura City Golf Championship, held Oct. 27-28 at Olivas Links and Buenaventura.
Greiner posted a two-day total of 3-under 141. Scott Bubb was second at 142. Kris Butkys, Ron Edwards, Marshall Colby and Matthew McAlpan all tied for third with a score of 145.
Mike Coulson won the A Flight title with a net score of 141. Bryan Reed was second at 145, with Chris Heimler and Leif Jacobsen tied for third at 147.
In B Flight, Warren Bonney fired a 136 to beat Dennis Harmon by one stroke. Tom Weber was third with a 141.
James Norton won the C Flight title with a net 137. Deborah Guthrie and George Linker tied for second at 140.
VCJGA holds big event: The Ventura County Junior Golf Association held its CJGA Players Championship on Nov. 17-18 at Cypress Ridge Golf Club in Arroyo Grande. Junior golfers from all over California took part in the 36-hole event.
In the boys' division, Glen Scher of Calabasas captured the title by firing back-to-back rounds of 74 for a 148 score. Simi Valley's Kyle Holden was second at 150.
Jacob Gralitzer of Agoura Hills fired a 156 to tie for third with Nopomo's Jeff McNeil and Reilly McMahon of Santa Maria.
In the girls' division, Emily Tubert of Burbank captured the title with a 158. Simi Valley's Shannon Holden was second at 163, followed by Bonnie Hu from Fremont with a 164.
