Police arrest man after armed standoff in Thousand Oaks
A suicidal man was taken into custody by sheriff's deputies Sunday after a four-hour standoff.
Officers received a call shortly after 4 p.m. reporting the 46-year-old man had a handgun and was threatening to shoot himself. More than a dozen officers, including a SWAT team, arrived on the scene, Capt. Tom Convery said Sunday.
Convery said no one was injured in the standoff, which ended around 8:15 p.m. on Rikkard Drive. He said a mental health crisis team spoke to the individual, who at one point walked out to the backyard with the gun.

First thing to do to help him...take away any and all firearms he has access to.

Im not exact on this. But I believe once someone has gone to mental health for a suicide attempt they are not allowed to own or pocess a gun for five years.

Kudos to our deputies and the SWAT team for a peaceful ending to this standoff. Mental Health Crisis Team, thanks for your part. Everybody went home safe, and the guy is getting help dealing with the overwhelming issues in his life. It doesn't get much better than that.
