Hungry man linked to restaurant robbery in Santa Paula

A Santa Paula man was arrested early Sunday morning in connection with a burglary at a Carl's Jr. restaurant in the 200 block of East Harvard Boulevard, authorities said.

Ruben Manzano, 19, was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of felony burglary of a structure and was being held Sunday in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Manzano was discovered in a residence in the 200 block of South Fourth Street by a police dog after a search of the area. He surrendered to officers and told them he had been drinking and became hungry, so he broke into the fast-food restaurant, according to a statement released by the Santa Paula Police Department.

In the restaurant, officers discovered Manzano's shoes, shirt and food that he had attempted to cook on the grill.

A security guard had spotted a shirtless man running north from the eatery.

Officers investigating the alarm call, which came in around 1:35 a.m., spotted a man, fitting the description given by the guard, running between houses in the 200 block of South Olive and the 200 block of South Fourth Street.

At least in Jail he will get something to eat. But $10000 bail for breaking and trying to cook some food, no money lost just messed up the place a litte.

This article is very poorly written. Must have been a slow news day or maybe the red star should hire people who care about their readers.

probably won't help in Santa Paula to hold a sign up at 1:35 am for help with a hamburger. However, it is still breaking the law.

Lost, I agree....I can't believe the horrible writing staff the Star has hired. This article makes it sound like he was attempting to grill his shirt and shoes along with the shoes.

smithjc - Exactly! The majority of people do not know the difference between the two but you would have hoped The Star would. Buy a Penal Code!
