Arson investigation in fire outside Ventura homes
An arson investigation is under way after a fire that caused significant damage to a boat and a pickup truck before spreading to a home, a second vehicle and a storage structure in Ventura early Sunday morning, authorities said.
Firefighters arrived at 2:34 a.m. to find a boat and pickup truck on fire in a driveway in the 13000 block of Swansea Avenue.
The fire spread to the corner of the single-family home, a sport utility vehicle and a storage container in the driveway of the property next door, according to the Ventura Fire Department.
The boat and truck had been individually set on fire.
The fire was extinguished in 10 minutes, and the residents of the two homes were evacuated.
Damage is estimated at $55,000, and Ventura police and fire officials are investigating with the help of a Ventura County Fire Department investigator.

Graffiti vandalism occurred over the weekend in the area of Kimball/Thille/Henderson. It is believed that it happened in the wee hours Sunday morning. The perps applied their sick art in a nice residential neighborhood. Before 2:30 AM a loud pickup truck was seen departing the area shortly after a resident had seen some subjects walking down the middle of the street in the direction of the truck. She didn't know that she should have called 911 to report such suspicious circumstances. Is it possible that the subjects seen walking in the street were not only the graffiti vandals but also the ones who set the arson fire? The timing would be about right. Wonder if any loud truck was heard on or near Swansea around that time Sunday morning.
