Bright Lights, Holiday Cheer!

It's time to welcome in the holidays with a full day and evening of holiday cheer, family fun and hundreds of thousands of lights that sparkle and dance across the water during the 42 nd Annual Parade of Lights taking place on Saturday, December 8, 2007.Themed, Under the Sea, the Parade of Lights will offer daytime activities at Fisherman's Wharf from 12 noon to 7 p.m.Daytime highlights include musical entertainment, horse-drawn carriages with sleigh bells, holiday artist's market, exhibitors, food booths, live music, children's hands-on art, gigantic inflatable fun zone, petting zoo & pony rides, face painting, water taxi rides and more. Families can create their own winter memories with the popular Snowplay for Children, offering 25 tons of snowplay fun, one of the highlights of the Parade of Lights offered from 10 a.m. to meltdown at the north end of Harborview Park adjacent to Channel Islands Harbor Marina.The Channel Islands Harbor will light up the night with the annual boat parade at 7 p.m. Visitors can keep a watchful eye out for Santa as he flies across the sky marking the beginning of the parade, presented courtesy of Aspen Helicopters.The parade can be viewed from parks and walkways that line the route as well as from several harbor restaurants that offer both full and partial views. The boat parade can also be viewed from the water on private charters. Information and reservations can be obtained by calling Captain Hook's Sportfishing at 805-382-6233 or Channel Islands Sportfishing Center at 805-382-1612.The parade route begins in front of Peninsula Park, follows the traditional route through the main channel, turns at Hobie Beach, loops in front of the launch ramp then heads back to the Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club, then repeats the route for a second run.Guests can easily get around the Harbor on the Channel Islands Harbor Water Taxi, which will be available for its regularly scheduled stops at Fisherman's Wharf, Harbor Landing, Marine Emporium Landing, Peninsula Park, West Bank Public Dock, and Channel Islands Harbor Fuel Dock. All rides are on a first-come, first-serve basis.2007 Parade of Lights posters, t-shirts, and sweatshirts, depicting Under the Sea, will be available for purchase at Fisherman's Wharf. Boat entries are also being sought for the Parade of Lights, and will be grouped into several different categories including individual, commercial, yacht club and electric boats. Prizes will be awarded based on several different elements such as originality and judges will take into consideration how the use of the theme, "Under the Sea' is demonstrated in the overall presentation.The Awards Ceremony & Brunch for the Parade of Lights will be held on Sunday, December 9 at 10 a.m. at Channel Islands Yacht Club. The brunch is open to the public and is $13.95 per person paid in advance, and $15.95 per person at the door.
