Man arrested on gun and drug charges
Oxnard police arrested a Santa Paula man Tuesday night on suspicion of possessing marijuana and two loaded handguns.
Police were called to a commercial parking lot along the 2400 block of North Rose Avenue about 9:25 p.m. by a bystander who saw a van circling the parking lot.
A person inside the van was seen tampering with parked cars, the bystander told police.
Police said they saw someone walking away from the van, and they detained Terry Stephenson, 21, of Santa Paula, after finding 23 grams of marijuana in the van, along with the handguns.
He also had a warrant for three previous felonies: second-degree robbery, possession of ammunition and street terrorism.
Stephenson was booked in Ventura County Jail, where he was being held Wednesday evening on bail of $180,000.

I wasn't aware that carrying ammunition (without having a weapon on your person) was a crime. I don't really think it is. I don't know why you would WANT to carry ammunition, but I can see no reason to outlaw it. If there's no weapon for it to go into, it's relatively safe.
Angelina Jolie used to wear Billy-Bob Thornton's blood, in a vile, around her neck. That didn't make her a vampire.

Ammunition is never safe, that's why the are outlawed. Just because you don't have a gun doesn't mean a bullet can't go off.
Good job OPD. Keep it up.

SueSue,
Ammunition is not outlawed in CA. - You can go to any gun store and buy a box to test your theory - just have your ID ready.
Unless of course you are a convicted felon like Mr. Stephenson.
Ammunition is pretty safe. The bullets don't travel (fly) when the shell is fired outside the barrel. The casing might explode into shrapnel and get ya.

Persons convicted of/on parole for any of a long list of crimes are prohibited in CA from possessing ammunition. "Felon with a bullet"

AnnaWhaat: Whaat are Youu talking about?
brian_williams: your right, a bullet doesn't contain explosives, it can only do harm if fired from a weapon. sorry about the mistake.
botnful: good point, your saying what it is I was trying to say. Thank you.
