Mickelson leads by two strokes at China

A 35-foot birdie putt on the 15th hole and a tap-in birdie on No. 18 gave Phil Mickelson a 4-under 68 and a two-stroke lead over Ross Fisher going into today's final round of the HSBC Champions tournament at Shanghai, China.

Creamer opens six-shot lead: Seeking her second victory of the year and fourth in three LPGA Tour seasons, Paula Creamer shot a 4-under 68 to increase her lead to six strokes in the Tournament of Champions at Mobile, Ala.

Creamer's second straight bogey-free day pushed her to 16-under 200.

U.S. Solheim Cup teammate Pat Hurst (68) was 10 under.

Panthers activate former UCLA QB Olson

Concerned over the status of Vinny Testaverde, the Carolina Panthers promoted former UCLA quarterback Drew Olson to the 53-man roster to possibly serve as the backup in today's game against Atlanta.

Romero, Phillies agree to three-year deal

Free-agent reliever J.C. Romero re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies, agreeing to a three-year, $12 million contract.

TENNIS

Henin, Sharapova to meet in final

Defending champion Justine Henin will play Maria Sharapova in the Sony Ericsson Championships final at Madrid, Spain.

Henin beat fourth-ranked Ana Ivanovic 6-4, 6-4, and Sharapova defeated No. 7 Anna Chakvetadze 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals.

Di Mauro banned nine months for betting on matches: Alessio Di Mauro was suspended for nine months for betting on tennis matches, becoming the first player to be sanctioned under the ATP's new anti-corruption rules.

The 124th-ranked Italian was also fined $60,000 after being found guilty of making 120 bets with an online bookmaker from Nov. 2, 2006, to June 12 this year.

SPEEDSKATING

Fabris, Koskela break world records

Italy's Enrico Fabris and Finland's Pekka Koskela broke world speedskating records in a World Cup event at the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns.

Fabris finished the 5,000 meters in 6 minutes, 7.40 seconds to beat the previous record of 6:07.48 set by Sven Kramer on March 3 in Calgary, Alberta.

Earlier, Koskela set the world record in the 1,000, finishing in 1:07 to erase the record of 1:07.03 set by Shani Davis at the Utah Olympic Oval on Nov. 20, 2005.

FIGURE SKATING

Weir, Belbin and Agosto win at Cup of China

Americans Johnny Weir and ice dancers Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto rallied for wins at the Cup of China at Harbin.
