When you head to the polls Tuesday to vote — and we urge those residents who have local elections in their city to do so — be sure to enjoy the relatively relaxed pace of this election. Voting won't be so easy in 2008.

Tuesday, voters in a handful of towns in this area will decide just three city council races (Ventura, Agoura Hills and Westlake Village); decide whether to keep a communication users' tax (Ventura); to renew a parcel tax to benefit schools (Agoura Hills); fill seats on two school boards (Ventura and Agoura Hills/Westlake Village); and elect three water board members (parts of the Ojai Valley).

While not to downplay the importance of the small ballots — people should be able to quickly cast ballots between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. — voters should think of Tuesday's election as a warmup to the busy 2008 statewide election season.

It all kicks off Feb. 5 with a separate presidential primary election. With the big names and even bigger war chests, voters will surely be inundated with campaign visits, TV ads and slick mailers. Additionally, voters will be deciding at least three ballot propositions in February.

The presidential primary will be quickly followed by the June 3 state primary election. Candidates for federal, state and local county races will be seeking votes. As in February, Californians will once again be asked to decide — using past elections as a guide — numerous ballot propositions.

The Nov. 4, 2008, General Election will be next up. Voters will elect a new president and, finally, decide many House, Senate and state legislative races, not to mention more ballot propositions.

Clearly, voters need to begin gathering information about the candidates and statewide issues in order to make informed choices during the busy 2008 election season.

Sometimes, such as Tuesday, being a voter is a relatively easy job. Sometimes, it's more difficult. Next year definitely falls in the latter category.

I cannot wait for the June 3 State Primary Election to get here... time to start making changes to the makeup of our T.O. City Council! Only disappointment will be that Andy Fox and Dennis Gillette's seats are not up for re-election this time which is too bad because they are the first two incumbents who need to get booted off our City Council for all the corrosive decisions they make which are not in the best interests of our city and it's citizens!
