Suspect in tortoise mutilation sentenced to jail, probation
Jose "Tony" Mosqueda was sentenced on Monday to 270 days in jail and placed on probation for five years in connection with felony animal cruelty in a case involving the mutilation of a tortoise that belongs to a 7-year-old autistic boy.
The 40-pound African spurred tortoise was abducted July 7 from his owner's backyard, slashed and later dumped behind an apartment complex in Ventura.
In September, Mosqueda pleaded no contest to the charge.
On Monday, Ventura County Superior Court Judge Bruce Clark handed down the sentence, which also requires Mosqueda to pay $5,400 in restitution for veterinarian bills and other costs. Under the judge's order, Mosqueda also is not allowed to own or have access to any pets.
His 270 days in jail will be reduced when he is credited for the 110 days he already has spent in jail and 55 days credited for good behavior.

Thats it? AND he gets credit for good behavior? Im surprised he's being made to pay restitution - though that probably will take years to pay off because its based on his income (if any) etc.

I am sure that the 6 year-old suffered more than this dirtbag.

Nice to know the Ventura County justice system is hard at work protecting the residents. Certainly people convicted of mutilating animals pose no threat to the community and should only have to serve a few months in jail. </sarcasm>
Do we get to vote on Ventura County Superior Court Judges? Because if they do, people need to remember this judge Bruce Clark's name and vote against him next time.
