UCLA's Roll out 3-5 weeks with foot injury
UCLA guard Michael Roll was expected to miss 3-5 weeks after tearing the plantar fascia in his left foot during practice Saturday.
Roll, a junior vying for a starting job, scored 16 points and went 3 for 5 from behind the 3-point line in the second-ranked Bruins' exhibition opener against Azusa Pacific on Friday night.
Junior point guard Darren Collison sprained his knee during Friday night's game, but the team learned Saturday that he would miss only 4-5 days with the injury, making him likely to be available for UCLA's regular-season opener against Portland State on Friday night.
Junior Josh Shipp sprained his thumb and may miss the Bruins' Monday night exhibition game against Chico State.

Harvick wins race; Edwards clinches title
Kevin Harvick won his sixth race and runaway points leader Carl Edwards wrapped up his first NASCAR Busch Series championship Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas.
Edwards leads runner-up David Reutimann by an insurmountable 552 points with two races to go.

Verplank surges into lead at Disney
Scott Verplank was two shots behind with three holes to play, then surged into a share of the lead at the Children's Miracle Network at Lake Buena Vista, Fla., simply by making pars.
Verplank wound up with a 71 and was tied with Stephen Ames going into the final round.
Davies falls into tie: Laura Davies was penalized two strokes for putting from the wrong place, a penalty that dropped the 44-year-old English star into a tie for the lead with Momoko Ueda in the Mizuno Classic at Shima, Japan.
Rose opens up four-shot lead: England's Justin Rose shot an even-par 71 to take a four-stroke lead over Padraig Harrington and Simon Dyson at the Volvo Masters at Sotogrande, Spain.
TENNIS
Nadal reaches final against Nalbandian
Rafael Nadal will play David Nalbandian in the Paris Masters final, and Richard Gasquet clinched the last spot in the season-ending Masters Cup despite losing his semifinal.
Nadal, seeded second, beat Marcos Baghdatis 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 and Nalbandian defeated 10th-seeded Gasquet 6-2, 6-4.
BOXING
U.S. win first gold medals in eight years
Flyweight Rau'shee Warren and welterweight Demetrius Andrade became the first Americans to win gold medals at the World Boxing Championships in eight years with convincing victories in the finals at Chicago.
Warren beat Thailand's Somjit Jongjohor 13-9 and Andrade's bout with Thailand's Non Boonjumnong was stopped in the second round by injury.
