Arts Council New and Past Board Members To Retreat

A sculptor, artist, musician and new Hospitality chair are new members of the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, holding a board retreat Nov. 10.

Second-time president Pat Johnson of Thousand Oaks is leading the 13-member board, with events geared to the community including the second annual Last Chance Holiday Boutique Dec. 15 at Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks.

New members are Sculptor Ilodora Elowitz, Newbury Park, Member at Large, Rich Brimer, Painter, Simi Valley, Director of Membership and Gary Mallaber, musican,Thousand Oaks, also a Member at Large.Rounding out the board is Cynthia Smith, Hospitality Chair.The Hillcrest center is where the council maintains an office. At its retreat, the council will probe new directions and strategies and its role in community arts involvement.

The ACCV's primary sponsors are Conejo Recreation and Park District and the City of Thousand Oaks. A 501(c) 3, the group has organizations, businesses and individuals as members. The organization may incorporate a special area in its name but "we actually have members from all over Ventura County," said Johnson. She is a Westlake Village resident, and active in Village Voices chorale.

Among major Conejo arts council activities are its bi-monthly Arts Scene newsletter featuring major visual and performing arts activities in the county; and its monthly cable television show, Arts Scene, going into its 15th year and hosted by Georgeanne Lees and Chad Smith of Newbury Park, with executive producer Margaret Travers of Newbury Park.
