Federal investigators believe that the man who robbed a Thousand Oaks bank Wednesday is a serial offender they have nicknamed the Irreconcilable Differences Bandit.

The bandit struck about 1:17 p.m. at the Bank of America, 954 S. Westlake Blvd., Ventura County Sheriff's Department officials said.

The robber walked up to a teller and passed a note indicating that he had a gun and wanted money, Detective Eric Buschow said.

The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money, and the robber left, Buschow said.

No weapon was seen and no one was injured.

Based on surveillance video of the robber and his mode of operation, federal investigators concluded that he is the same individual they have linked to 11 bank robberies since 2006, Buschow said.

The robber has hit banks in cities including Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Torrance, according to a news release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Investigators are calling the suspect the Irreconcilable Differences Bandit because during a robbery in December, he told the teller that he was going through a divorce and needed help wiring money.

The bandit is described as a man in his mid-40s or 50s who weighs 150 to 175 pounds and is 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9.

Sheriff's officials are asking anyone with information to call Detective Jon Smith at 494-8216 or Special Agent Derrel Craig at 677-7348.
