Morning Report: Ojai teenager arrested on suspicion of robbing homeless man
Police and Fire: Ventura County Sheriff’s officials this morning said an Ojai teenager was arrested last night for allegedly robbing a homeless man.
Deputies arrested Fabian Ruiz, 18, on suspicion of using a knife to rob the man of about $40, said Capt. Derek West.
The robbery occurred about 5:10 p.m. Wednesday on the 400 block of Lomita Avenue in Meiners Oaks.
Deputies identified Ruiz as a suspect based on a description from the robbery victim and arrested the young man several hours after the alleged crime, West said.
Ruiz is facing charges of robbery, making criminal threats and street terrorism, West said.

Ventura firefighters pulled a 50-year-old Ventura man from the Santa Clara riverbed last night after he fell about 15 feet into a foot of water, the Ventura Fire Department said in a prepared statement.
Firefighters, paramedics, and personnel from the Sheriff’s department and the Ventura Harbor Patrol located the man about 300 yards upriver from Harbor Boulevard at the edge of Ventura at 8:37 p.m.
The man, who told responders he had been drinking when he fell, was complaining of back pain, according to the fire department.
Firefighters put him on a backboard and used a rope system to pull him out of the riverbed so he could be transported to a nearby hospital for observation.
The rescue effort took about an hour total.
Traffic: At 7:11 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was reporting a tire causing a traffic hazard in lanes of Highway 126 at Fish Hatchery Road in Fillmore.
Weather: Fog and morning clouds are expected to hang around the county through mid morning and then give way to mostly sunny conditions with high temperatures in the 60s and 70s, the National Weather Service reported.

Now I'm curious, which story? the theft, the fall, the traffic hazard or the weather?

How sad! How much money did this punk think a homeless man had on him? Well over 40.00 bucks he is now looking at several felonies and probably jail or prison time. Was it worth it???
Glad the homelessman was not harmed! Other then emotional. Prayers to him!

I thought this article (and the posts) were gonna be about the idiot who stole from the homeless. Not an attack on the victim. Just wondering...what address will he use on the employment application? oh and I'm sure he carries his Social Sec card and driver's licence or ID with him all the time.

Hey, JoeySnarf...two different stories. The homeless man was robbed in Meiners Oaks and the drunk fell 15 feet in the Santa Clara River bed.

Or maybe he tripped over the tire in Fillmore, fell 15 feet into the Santa Clara River bed and then was robbed at knifepoint in Meiners Oaks. The guy gets around!

They are all 30 years old or younger?

How about everyone looses the sarcasm and sticks to the topic?? I thought it was the same story as well Joey. Funny how they throw the weather and traffic report on the bottom too. Tossing multiple stories on one page is messy.
Sad that an 18 year old kid with his life just beginning would throw it away for $40. What does that say about society??
Geoman, you going to enlighten us with more details on your theory?

The Star always does the group stories on their Morning Report. Use a little logic when reading them.

concerned_citizen: That homeless guy isn't going to find a motel room in Ojai for $40!

Sorry to see Joey go, unlike some, he actually had some insightful things to say.
Rebel you're right but that's probably everything he had. What difference does it make if it was $40 or $4,000? This kid wasn't Robin Hood ... he was stealing from poorest of the poor. Punishment should fit the crime.

Under 30? Maybe for some people it takes more time to learn right from wrong?

This kid has already served a year in juvie for stabbing a rival gang member at Pacific View Mall. Yes he is undocumented.
