T.O. doctor surrenders medical license
A Thousand Oaks doctor serving probation for two misdemeanor gun charges has surrendered his medical license.
Officials of the Medical Board of California reported Thursday that William Coburn Jr., 74, of Thousand Oaks gave up his license in an agreement that became effective this week. Coburn was arrested in June 2005 for allegedly trading prescription medicine for a gun. In a plea bargain, he pleaded no contest to two counts of unlawfully transferring a firearm. As part of the agreement, he agreed to surrender his license.
He was sentenced in March to 36 months of probation.
The Medical Board also accused Coburn of several counts of unprofessional conduct, including excessive prescribing of medicine, prescribing to an addict and gross negligence. A hearing wasn't held. In order to resolve the case, Coburn agreed to give up his right to contest any cause for discipline and to surrender his license, according to Medical Board records.
