Each year the Future Collegiate World Tour selects its Academic All-America team from players from around the world. Players are honored for their play on the course and their excellence in the classroom.

Brandon Hagy of Westlake High and Kelsey Conway of La Reina were named to the 2007 team.

Players on this team had a minimum GPA of 3.75. Many are ranked in the top 10 percent of their class. Their SAT math scores ranged from 670 to 790, with nine players scoring a 710 or higher. That is equivalent to the 95th percentile.

Three of the players also scored a 90 percent or higher on the SAT critical reading and four scored above 90 percent on the SAT writing test. Eleven players scored in the 90th percentile or better on the ACT.

Hagy and Conway were recognized at the championship dinner on May 25 in Florida.

Morgan wins title: Shirley Morgan won the Camarillo Springs Women's Golf Club's President's Cup title. Morgan, who lives in Camarillo, won the championship on the 18th hole. Jackie Mann of Thousand Oaks and Joan Grasty of Camarillo were runners-up.

The consolation bracket was won by Debbie Morris of Camarillo. Morris bested Kay Bak of Newbury Park.

Conquering No. 17 at the TPC: Sanjiv Verma, a member of Spanish Hills Country Club, recently played in the 2007 PGA Tour Partners Trail Championship at the TPC Sawgrass.

During the three-day event, Verma posted the low gross score for the three days on the famed No. 17 island hole at TPC Sawgrass.

Verma was 1 under for the three days, including a birdie on the first day from 35 feet. Verma also had the low net score in the Palmer Division. A total of 63 players from across the country took part.

U.S. Kids Championship: Brookside Country Club in Pasadena will host the only Southern California regional qualifier for players looking to qualify for 2007 U.S. Kids Golf World Championship.

The event at Brookside is set for June 25 and is one of four in California.

Qualifying events are held throughout the nation to determine the field for the world's largest golf tournament for kids under 12. Players may register for the tournament at http://www.uskidsgolf.com. There is no handicap requirement to participate.

Competitors play courses that have been set up to play at age- and gender-friendly distances. Depending on their age, participants will play either nine or 18 holes.

The World Championship Qualifiers will help determine the boys and girls fields for the eighth annual U.S. Kids Golf World Championship, which will be played Aug. 2-4 at Pinehurst (N.C.) Resort. More than 1,000 kids from 30 countries are expected to compete.
