Workshop scheduled on steelhead recovery plan
The National Marine Fisheries Service will hold a public workshop Thursday in Ventura to gather information on the development of a federal recovery plan for Southern California steelhead.
The purpose of the workshop is to identify specific actions necessary to the recovery of the fish, which has been identified as being at risk of extinction.
Local knowledge on recovery actions or unique needs of the fish is extremely valuable to ensure the plan is comprehensive, officials said.
During the afternoon session of the workshop, participants will break into small groups and identify specific actions. This Recovery Actions Workshop builds on a two-day session held last month where workshop participants focused on developing a list of threats faced by the species.
The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 202 of Ventura City Hall. Workshop attendance is free, but registration is suggested because of space limitations.
Online registration is available at http://www.abag.ca.gov/abag/steelhead/recoveryworkshops.
