Vendor robbed; police arrest three suspects
James Glover II / Star staff Oxnard Police officers search an apartment complex for three people suspected of robbing an ice cream vendor.
An ice cream vendor was robbed at gunpoint Monday afternoon in Oxnard, setting off a police search through an apartment complex on the city's south side, authorities said.
Men and women came out of their apartments to watch police officers, including the department's SWAT team, search the complex.
The apartments run for several blocks behind the Kmart shopping center at Channel Islands Boulevard and Ventura Road.
Two men Juan Meza, 26, and Jason Rodriguez, 22 and a woman, Yvonne Jacinto, 22, all of Oxnard, were arrested on suspicion of robbery, Sgt. Dave Klug of the Oxnard Police Department said.
On Monday evening, Klug said the suspects were still at the police station but they would likely be transported to the Main Jail in Ventura.
The vendor was not injured, nor was force used to detain any of the suspects, said Sgt. Terry Burr, who was at the scene.
The search lasted more than an hour. The Ventura County Sheriff's Department sent a helicopter to assist.
Police said the suspects were hiding on the grounds of the complex, including one who fled to the roof. Police used a ladder to reach that individual.

Well Im glad the vendor was not harmed. And glad the Officers caught the suspects. But no where does it say they were double strikers..... Lets not presume things. If your not already living in fear on your own streets then you should be! There are alot more serious criminals out there then this.

jjp432 purely speculation on your part again. There is nothing in this article that says they used an illegally obtained hand gun. Nevertheless, great job on the part of Oxnard PD for capturing these bums and placing them where they belong, hopefully for a long time.

I'm glad the vendor is not hurt as well. If this is what they choose to do for income. They should think of ways to protect themselves. As for the 3 that were arrested. I hope that they are kept off the streets.

Where does it say they used a shotgun? Where does it say how they came to possess this firearm? I didn't see it. Maybe you're just speculating on facts not revealed.
I'm just glad they caught these scumbags.

Ms. Morena,
No one is defending anyone... If you took the time to read comments, and actually understood what you read , then you'd realize that everyone is making comments about the article, the way it was written and the assumptions listed by commentators.
By the way, Graffiti started in Philidelphia and, Pennyslvannia primarily used by politcal activists to make statements, not by hispanics.
Just reading your comment made my stomach turn. Glad you own your own business, in, fact I've just done a back flip for you, but you sound like an ignorant person poppin off at the lip, getting your nipples hard off of seeing your own comments posted. Im sure you may be educated, im sure you have a brain, owning a business you may somewhat need one. USE IT.....because from what ive read, you havent.

Mr Gonzalez, I'm glad you got to DM's post before I did. Miss Moreno, if you lived somewhere else, would you be quick to point out race involved in the crime? Hello Delia, you live in a mainly Mexican community. It's not a matter of race or living in difficult times. People are people and a crime is a crime, no matter WHERE you are. We all know doing right from wrong comes from within. Just be happy they're off the streets for awhile.
Well Martin, she may not need much brain to own a business. We don't know what type of business it is. But she does possess two strong qualities: Ignorance and Vanity.

Mr. Gonzales, graffiti kills neighborhoods just as much as bullets kill people.
The origins of graffiti are not as important as the current impact of graffiti upon us. Ms. Morena was not trying to intimate that graffiti originated with Hispanics. The majority of graffiti in our area does come from Hispanic gangs and tagging crews, though there are a number of Anglos who also contribute to the problem. It is a symptom requiring diagnosis and treatment ... even if the treatment is major surgery, meaning perps are locked up for a long, long time.
Race, ethnicity and political correctness aside, we must deal with the issues surfaced by Ms. Moreno.

People kill neighborhoods, not graffiti. People kill people, not bullets. Plain and simple.

Ahh, Ms. Moreno, the CPA from the non-existent UCLA School of Accounting is back, only now you're a business-owner. What's your title going to be next week, President of the United States? No sermons this week?

Many many years ago my parents owned a restaurant in Santa Paula, my father and I used to sell tacos at "La Casa del Mexicano" It was late after the dance hall had closed, my father and I were in the restaurant on Harvard Blvd., three young men, (don’t know what color because it was a dark ally and it didn't really matter) had large sticks that could of been base ball bats, attempted to break in. I was only 13 years old and the fear of someone hurting my father or me was not something easy for both of us to forget. So these three individuals need to get what is coming to them, they should think about how that vendor felt being threatened with a gun and deal with the consequences.

Yeah, right... Carry a loaded weapon alongside your hot dogs and Ho-Hos that you will inevitably be forced to use, then quickly find yourself wearing lipstick and Vaseline for Bubba the Gorilla at San Quentin because you blew holes in some "rambunctious" cute little tykes. As beautiful as it sounds to cap their sorry butts, you can't defend yourself that way in this country... The criminals always prevail.

Mr. Gonzales, excellent points. The people are to blame for the crime and way a neighborhood looks. The "broken window" theory is evidence. (Look that one up Ms. Moreno).
Gangs and graffiti don't have anything to do with this article. Either does how they obtained the gun(s). The point is they had one and used it. You can't give citizens the right to carry a gun, loaded or not, because the majority are not capable of handling them responsibly. I have treated soldiers here in Iraq, trained to use and carry weapons, who have accidentally shot themselves or been shot. Give the average citizen a gun with a little "mandatory" training and things will only get worse.

Steve, the majority of Ventura can't drive in traffic or the rain, how can they carry a gun responsibly. We do have the right per the 2nd Amendment but not a right without a concealed weapons permit to carry them at all times when a random event like this could occur when we're working or getting gas at the gas station. ALSO, if more people demanded and used their right, then they would be taking action but the posters on this message forum would rather type comments than do anything pro-active to make their communities better. There are a few people on here who do have commendable actions to follow up their words and we need more like that.

How much money could you get from an ice-cream vendor anyways? There has got to be more to this story. Seriously, 3 people with guns rob an ice-cream vendor?!!
"There are a few people on here who do have commendable actions to follow up their words and we need more like that."
Surfmedic91 - what do you do? What do you suggest others do? Kind of negative today, don't you think?

Jjp432, I was just saying they may not have been double strikers. Thats all. I agree, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I just didn't make my point well. Thanks !
Martin, I DO believe selling Avon would be owning her own business??????? hmmmmmmmmmm LOL
Bea,Just a thought here, they were probably tweekers and thought they could get some fast cash and the guy would not have access to a phone right away and they could take off. ???? Just a thought! I hope they catch the scum !!!!!!!!

Who writes this stuff? And was this person at the scene with that vendor? Nobody knows the real story. The vendor didn't even tell the real story. What he failed to tell police was that the 3 suspects were trying to buy ice cream for their kids & the vendor was trying to over charge them & short change them. None of them had a gun or any sort of weapon. And none of them hurt the vendor. None of them even own guns. That vendor didn't tell the whole truth so he could be made out to be the poor victim! All that drama was just a waist of the tax payers money!!!

bleuj- omg are you kidding me? Cause if he lied to the police he committed a crime ! Now I have NO clue what the real story is. Thanks !

OMG are YOU kidding me?!? I never said that the vendor committed a crime. I said that the vendor failed to tell police the whole truth. The real truth. Don't tell me that you always beleive everything you read? Because if you do then you need to get out more & see whats really going on!

Can't help but wonder why one of the wrongly accused was on the roof. Perhaps just suntanning?

An Icecream vendor was robbed at GUNPOINT !!!!!
Did ya read that? Cause if he lied and there was no gun then he would have committed a crime by filing a false police report !!!!!!!! Got it????
bleujuggalo, No I do not believe everything. BUT I do expect most of what I read in the paper to be of the truth !!!! We read it, we comment on it. Plain and simple. You have no clue how MUCH I get out in the world. Apparently you took my comment a bit too sarcastically!!!!!!! ya think?
Posted by bleujuggalo on June 3, 2007 at 8:36 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Ok, first of all there was no gun! None of the three had a gun. They don't even own a gun! Thats a fact! That ice cream vendor did lie. There was no gun involved!!!!!
And one of the accussed was up in a tree, not on the roof! I was there!!!
Don't beleive everything you read!!! Because the people that write these articles only write what they heard beacuse they were not there to see what really went on!
Posted by AnnaWhaat on June 4, 2007 at 6:05 p.m. (Suggest removal)
I understand that and I appreciate your knowledge of what you saw. Like I said if the Vendor lied and said they tried to rob him and they had a gun then the vendor did file a false report.Which he can get into trouble for.
Thankyou for you input !!!
If it is like you said I hope it gets clarified and they are released if in custody and the case dropped.
