An Agoura Hills man disappeared Saturday night, prompting a search by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, friends and family.
Jonathan Richard Varble, 24, was last seen at Bogie's restaurant on Agoura Road in Westlake Village around midnight.
He called a friend between 2 and 2:30 a.m., saying he would be at the friend's home in five minutes, friend and former co-worker Brenda Tang said.
Varble has not been heard from since.
"It's a mystery," said Sheriff's Deputy Kenton, who declined to give his first name. "We have no clues at this point. No leads."
Varble was at Boggie's with a friend, who left at 10:30 p.m. Tang said they know he was there until midnight.
Friends and family have launched "massive search parties in the canyons looking [for] him all weekend," according to e-mail Tang sent to friends.
Volunteers are also posting flyers.
"He's got a ton of friends," Tang said. "He's an outgoing person. He is a very personable guy. Everybody loves him."
Varblelives on Oaks Creek Lane in Agoura Hills. He drives a silver and gray, 2006 Infiniti G-30 with California license plate number: 5UCF136.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. H. Chilstrom or Sgt. A. Brackpool, with the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau, (323) 890-5500.

If he's a "missing person" why are the detectives on the case with homicide?

Why are they looking in the canyons? There's more to this than the STAR is reporting. I think the STAR is withholding information so they can add to the story to fill space on the pages tomorrow and the next day.

Nope. We're not withholding anything. This is all we know. I think they're looking in the canyons because they suspect an auto accident.
