SIMI VALLEY
Simi Valley Senior Center
At 3900 Avenida Simi, Simi Valley. Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Call 583-6363 to inquire about services and special events.
Senior nutrition program: noon Mondays through Fridays. Call 583-6365 for reservations.
Paying the bill for long-term care: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Senior advocate Betty Berry will explain how Medicare and MediCal work in connection with long-term care, and alternative funding options.
COA Friday night dances: 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. June 8 with The Rhythm Kings and June 22 with The Aristocats. Admission is $6 and refreshments will be served. Doors open at 7 p.m. Sponsored by the Council on Aging.
Memory loss counseling: 9 a.m. to noon last Tuesday of the month. The Alzheimer's Association offers free counseling for anyone with questions about Alzheimer's disease, dementia, senility and memory loss including spouses, children, caregivers, friends and neighbors.
Hearing Loss Association support group: 2 to 4:30 p.m. second Tuesday. Discuss topics, and recommendations for future programs and speakers. For more information, e-mail arniejo1@sbcglobal.net.
Council On Aging: 1 p.m. second Monday. Monthly meeting, open to the public.

Fibromyalgia support group: 3 to 5 p.m. second Thursday. For people with fibromyalgia and other arthritis problems. Sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation. Information: Ella Cranny at 306-1970.
Sit 'n' Click: 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 1 to 5 p.m. Fridays. Practice your computer skills in a high-tech environment. A knowledgeable volunteer is there to help.
Stretch 'n' Walk: 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays, 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays and Fridays. An easy to moderate exercise class.
Senior fitness: 9 to 10:15 a.m. Thursdays, 8:30 to 10 a.m. Fridays. A more active workout.
Aerobics classes: 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. $20 per semester or $3 per class.

Registration is under way for a wide variety of one-day workshops, multi-week classes, clubs, and sports and exercise activities for people 50 and older. Cosponsored by the city of Simi Valley's Council on Aging and the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District, most activities take place at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi. Goebel Senior Adult Center

Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program provides free counseling to seniors and/or their families to interpret Medicare and supplemental health insurance forms. Appointments are available from 9 to 11 a.m. first and third Thursdays. Appointments: 381-2742.
Sunday afternoon tea dance: 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. June 10. Live music by The Unforgettables, refreshments, doors open at 2 p.m. $7.
Barbecue and ice cream social: 3:30 p.m. June 29. Tickets on sale now at $7 include a hot dog or hamburger, chips, potato salad, soft drink and an ice cream sundae.
Sock hop summer dance: 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. June 30. Live music from the '40s, '50s and '60s. Cocktail sandwiches, chips and beverage. Advance tickets on sale for $7; $9 at the door.
Horseshoes: 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays. Also available on other days during regular center hours.
Softball: 8:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, Thousand Oaks Community Center, 2525 N. Moorpark Road. For ages 50 and older.

Free blood pressure testing: 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays.
Diabetes support group: 1 to 2 p.m. third Tuesday.
Braille Institute Community Outreach program: 10 a.m. to noon Fridays. For all ages. Mobility training, independent living skills, community speakers, outings, socialization and crafts. Free classes in cooking, reading, sewing and art for those with low vision. Information: Mary Camarillo, 983-3324.
Braille Institute low-vision evaluation: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. third Friday. 682-6222.
Widows/widowers support groups: Three separate groups meet on Tuesdays: 11 a.m. for newly bereaved; 1 and 2:30 p.m. groups are for those who are ready to begin new lives as single people. Before attending group, call Marge Lewi-Rucker at Hospice, 495-2145. Group meets third Tuesday at a local restaurant for lunch.
Alzheimer's caregivers support group: 9:30 a.m. to noon first and third Fridays. Offered for family members and/or caregivers of those afflicted with Alzheimer's. 498-1988.
Grief support group: 9:30 to 11 a.m. second Monday. Specific to caregivers who have lost a loved one to Alzheimer's or other dementia disorders.
Arthritis support group: 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. second Saturday. Information: Joyce Lieberman at 493-5233.
Senior Concerns Advocates: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Assistance dealing with housing, healthcare, insurance guidelines, benefit information, residential care, emergency assistance, utility discounts and adult protective services. Appointments: 495-6250.

Goebel Excursions
Hollywood Bowl: 5:30 p.m. to midnight July 3. Take a picnic dinner and sit back under the stars for a Los Angeles Philharmonic concert. $70.
San Diego History Museum: 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. July 16. A 45-minute audio tour of the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit, time to explore the museum on your own, and a catered lunch. $81.
Getty Villa: 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 25. $35.
SENIOR CONCERNS ADULT DAY CENTER

Offers programs and services for senior adults who need supportive services. Recreation, education and nutrition services available, along with opportunities to socialize.
Senior Concerns Caregivers and Friends of Memory Impaired, Frail or Special-Need Seniors support groups:
- 9:30 to 11 a.m. second and fourth Fridays, Hillcrest Inn game room, 405 Hodencamp Road, Thousand Oaks.
