Ex-Field Lab workers to get help filing claims
Help is coming for Santa Susana Field Laboratory workers attempting to file compensation claims for illnesses caused by exposure to chemicals and radiation.
The U.S. Department of Labor's Traveling Resource Center will set up shop in Simi Valley June 5-7 at Best Western Posada Royale Hotel & Suites, 1775 Madera Road.
Department representatives will assist people filing claims under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act, which provides compensation to workers who became ill as a result of working in the atomic weapons industry.
Officials urged those who worked at the Field Laboratory for Energy Technology Engineering Center, Atomics International, Rocketdyne and the Canoga Park, DeSoto and Downey facilities to attend.
There are two parts to the compensation program. Part B compensates workers who contracted radiological cancer, beryllium sensitivity, chronic beryllium disease and chronic silicosis as a result of exposure to radiation, beryllium or silica. Part E compensates workers whose illness was likely caused by exposure to toxic substances.
