The traditional "laying on of hands" ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of St. George's Anglican Church at 6300 Telephone Road in Ventura.

Church to celebrate its new name
In February, the congregation of the Ventura Church of Religious Science voted to change its name. Prompted by a change in the name of its national organization to United Centers for Spiritual Living, the church decided to use the name Ventura Center for Spiritual Living.
The new name gives emphasis to the interfaith nature of the organization and its belief in changing one's life through spiritual practice.
On Sunday, the center, which is at Santa Clara and Laurel streets, will celebrate its new designation by unveiling new signage on the outside of the building. The congregation will gather on the Laurel Street side of the center to unveil its new name and to celebrate a new era in the organization.
The unveiling will occur after the 11 a.m. service, about noon, and the public is invited.
Ventura County
Community service effort scheduled
ACTION Foundation, a community-based outreach group, will host its fourth annual countywide Service Day on June 2. It is expected to be one of the largest collective church-based service event days in the U.S.
More than 75 local churches will join with 50 social service agencies and schools to help Ventura County citizens in need. Some 2,000 volunteers are expected to mobilize throughout the county to help the area's elderly, disabled, low income, and special needs communities. In all, ACTION will enlist volunteers on more than 150 projects.
ACTION was created by four area pastors who envisioned unifying local churches by addressing the needs of their communities.
On June 2, an army of volunteers organized by local churches will come together and serve agencies such as the Lighthouse Emergency Shelter, YMCA, Casa Pacifica, Sarah's House, Children's Hunger Fund and Foodshare. Homes will be repaired, food boxes will be created for distribution, and assistance will touch hundreds of area citizens and families.
For more information on ACTION, call Rob Orth at 37691, or visit http://www.actionvc.org.
