City to decide eminent domain use extension

The Camarillo Community Development Commission's authority to use eminent domain for 12 more years is expected to be decided in June.

The council voted 4-0 to hold a joint meeting with the commission June 27 to amend the redevelopment plan for the Camarillo Corridor Project area. Councilwoman Charlotte Craven abstained from voting.

If the plan is amended, the commission will have the authority to use eminent domain the process by which a government agency acquires private property for public use from 2008 to 2020.

Council members act as members of the development commission.

The commission's authority to use eminent domain will expire June 19. The city staff recommended that the commission consider extending the authority because of redevelopment proposals in the future.

If passed, the authority would only affect certain properties within the Camarillo Corridor Project area.
