Three-way land swap makes way for T.O. charter school
Officials met Thursday to mark the completion of a land swap that will help pave the way for a new school and municipal facility in Thousand Oaks.
The agreement involved a number of steps, beginning with the Conejo Valley Unified School District selling a 5.5-acre parcel on Rancho Conejo Boulevard to Thousand Oaks.
Next, the city transferred that property to Shapell Industries in exchange for cash and a three-acre lot next to the city's Municipal Services Center.
There, the city plans to build a community recycling facility and an expanded bus storage and maintenance facility.
City officials secured a $531,000 federal grant toward construction costs.
Officials said revenue produced by the deal will help the school district build a continuation high school on land next to the district headquarters, relocate a school bus storage area behind Thousand Oaks High School on Moorpark Road, and move a vehicle maintenance facility on Newbury Road to the Rancho Conejo industrial area.
Through the agreement, Shapell gained contiguous parcels of land. The funds it paid will support city park facilities and programs, city spokesman Andrew P. Powers said.
A year ago, both the school board and City Council approved the agreement.

So what happens to the land on Newbury Road where the present continuation high school sits?
