No criminal charges filed over threat posted online

The Ventura County District Attorney's Office has decided not to file criminal charges against a CSU Channel Islands student accused of posting an online threat about going on a rampage, prosecutor Howard Wise said Wednesday.

Wise declined to say why the district attorney won't file charges against Alisha Salazar, an 18-year-old freshman.

Salazar's lawyer, Michael Carty of Santa Barbara, couldn't be reached for comment.

On April 19, Salazar was arrested on campus after being accused of posting a threat on Facebook.com about going on a shooting rampage. She potentially faced a felony charge of making criminal threats, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

Salazar was free on $20,000 bail.

Salazar is an English major, according to CSUCI officials. Her hometown is listed as Rancho Santa Fe, north of San Diego.

Her arrest came only days after a gunman at Virginia Tech killed fellow students and teachers in the deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history.

A fellow student at CSUCI notified officials of Salazar's alleged posting at Facebook.com, a popular Web site used by college students across the nation as a place to meet and socialize.
