Academy will present annual Spotlight on Leadership awards

The Ventura County Leadership Academy will honor community leaders and organizations at its Spotlight on Leadership awards dinner on June 1.

The event at the Ventura Beach Marriott, 2055 Harbor Blvd., Ventura, kicks off with a reception and silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and a program to award the honorees.

"The honorees for our sixth annual Awards Dinner are truly exceptional," said Susan Lefevre, director of the academy. "These people are making a significant, positive impact in their local communities and Ventura County as a whole, and we are thrilled to be honoring them."

Those being honored include:

n Distinguished Community Leader Award philanthropists Hank and Leah Lacayo of Newbury Park.

n Distinguished Business Leader Award Ventura County Economic Development Association.

n VCLA Alumni of the Year education advocate Norma Maidel and senior citizen advocate Sue Tatangelo, both Camarillo residents.

n Emerging Leader of the Year crisis intervention specialist Joyce Wilde of Camarillo.

Tickets are $75 each. Reservations, a must by Friday, can be made by calling 485-6288, ext. 260.

An initiative of the United Way of Ventura County, the academy has, since 1994, offered a unique learning experience to those who live or work in Ventura County.
