Santa Paula apartment project gets approval
The Santa Paula City Council this week approved building a six-unit apartment complex on East Main Street.
The council voted 4-0 Monday night to approve the Keats Corner Apartment Complex project. Councilman Bob Gonzales was absent because of illness.
The council conceptually approved the project at 720 E. Main St. in early April but with conditions, including reducing the number of units from eight to six .
The number of units was knocked down to lessen visual impacts on the nearby historic Ebell Club, said Anna Arroyo, an associate planner for the city. The 1917 Craftsman-style structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a county historical landmark.
The apartment complex will have six two-bedroom units with 18 parking spaces, and one unit will be a low-income apartment.
Groundbreaking is expected to take place Aug. 1, said Steve Andrews, of developer Keats Corner Development Inc.

Looks like Adams Canyon is beginning downtown. Another one at this location? So Santa Paula keeps building apartments to the city. I'm all in for city improvements but when are they doing something to our schools and parks? Teague Park reminds me of a piece of the Arizona Desert. How about our beat up streets? ever driven down Santa Paula Street? it took the city about 8 years to fix Santa Barbara Street.

And...another low income building... Just what we need. Anita made a good point. Our streets are full of pot holes and the park needs a makeover. However, it will be a waste of money to even re-do it because the soccer players who run on it every weekend will ruin it again. We already dumped money into before. Schools do not lack money, but cleaning up our city would be nice. Its looking trashy and continuously building low income housing or apts. is not going to bring money in. Find something else more important to spend what little amount of money we have on our city!

SPWoman, the reason why soccer players ruin the fields is because of the lack of them! think about it. Teague park is the only one available to approximately 30+ soccer teams (with at least 15 players each). Though it was a good intention, I think the renovation done to the field a couple years ago was not well planned. Remember- It is a soccer field for soccer players to play in. Outside teams, such as Oxnard, Fillmore, Carp and others refuse to come and play against SP teams because of the horrible condition of that field. Fix the existing problems then move on to improvements. What ever happen to good ol' Santa Paula.......

City money has to go into certain funds for certain things. But seriously isn't it a cop out to build six apartments and have only one of them that is low income? What is that some kind of a tax break. An ok to go ahead with the project?
