Oxnard man arrested after stolen car chased
An Oxnard man was arrested after he allegedly led officers on a short car chase, police said Tuesday.
Police arrested Jose Nuñez Zavala, 22, on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, fleeing from police and possessing narcotic paraphernalia, Sgt. Steve Moore said.
The pursuit began about 11:40 p.m. Monday near Camino del Sol and Rice Avenue in Oxnard when an officer spotted a stolen vehicle, Moore said.
The officer followed the vehicle on Camino del Sol to Gibraltar Street, at which point it sped off through a residential neighborhood, Moore said.
Three minutes later, Zavala turned into an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Camino del Sol, jumped out of the still moving vehicle and ran from police.
The car careened into an apartment stairwell. After running for about two blocks, Zavala ran directly into Moore's path as the sergeant circled the scene, Moore said.
