Soroptimists plan Margarita Mix-off
Soroptimist International of the Conejo will present its sixth annual Margarita Mix-off on May 31 at Conejo Creek Park North.
Margarita tasting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with local restaurants competing in five categories. Admission is $25 in advance or $30 after Thursday, and includes all drinks and appetizers. Student event to fight forced child labor
The South Asian Club of Oak Park High School has announced a "hoop-athon" to raise funds to support the Rugmark Rehabilitation and Education Center in its efforts to fight forced child labor around the world.
The event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 3 at the school, 899 Kanan Road, Oak Park. Each participant will attempt 20 shots on the basketball court. A donation of from $1 to $20 per shot is asked. To register or make a donation, go to http://www.ourvoicestogether.org/hoops.

Nature's beauty is focus of new exhibit
The beauty of nature is captured by Ventura County artists past and present in Nature Observed: Painting, Sculpture and Photography, a new exhibit of 100 years of artwork to open May 26 at The Oaks in Thousand Oaks.
The exhibit is put on by Museum of Ventura County as part of its temporary satellite location at The Oaks. The show will open May 26 and an artists' reception will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 31. The museum satellite is on the upper level northeast end of the center at 222 W. Hillcrest Drive. Admission to the exhibit and reception is free, and exhibit hours are noon to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays. 'Is India Shining? topic at library
Global Exchange Ventura County Supporters will sponsor a free program at the Thousand Oaks Library from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday titled, "Is India Shining? Battles over Land, Labor and Livelihoods." For more information, visit http://www.globalexchange.org.
Botanic Garden offers Matilija Poppy Festival
A spectacular display of Matilija poppies will provide the setting for an afternoon of activities at the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden on Sunday.
The garden's annual Matilija Poppy Festival is set for 1 to 5 p.m. at 350 W. Gainsborough Road, Thousand Oaks.
