Pipe that looked like bomb closes intersection

A suspicious object left Monday night at an intersection between Oxnard and Camarillo was not an explosive device, authorities said Tuesday.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department bomb squad was called to Santa Clara and Los Angeles avenues about 8 p.m. Monday after someone reported a possible pipe bomb to the California Highway Patrol.

The object turned out to be a piece of PVC pipe left by construction crews, sheriff's Capt. Ross Bonfiglio said.

The intersection was closed until 10:35 p.m. Monday while authorities investigated the device.
