CSU Channel Islands students give awards
Students at CSU Channel Islands have recognized a classmate, administrator, professor, staff member and community member with Maximus Awards.
Students organize the awards, which were first given four years ago, and elect winners. Winners are:
n Student: Senior Brian McAleney, a psychology major who coordinated a drive that collected more than 4,000 articles of clothing for Oxnard's Mixteco community.
n Administrator: Edwin Lebioda, assistant vice president for student affairs, who is known for working long hours, including evenings and weekends, so he can attend college events.
n Faculty: Sean Anderson, an assistant professor of environmental science and resource management who led a trip during spring break to New Orleans, where students helped rebuild a church. Anderson also is pushing to make CSUCI a green campus.
n Staff: Josh Wade, coordinator of lifetime leisure, who helped create a sailing club, the school's first competitive sports club.
n Community: Richard Wagner, an Associated Students community board member and past Camarillo Chamber of Commerce board chairman who has served as a liaison between the college and business community.
